Not the best book in this series
Revisado: 07-13-22
Have enjoyed this series so far, usually tongue n cheek humour, and entertaining story. This book not so much. Also, the historically most excellent narrator is falling into the current habit of grating voice fry

Historia
The life of a magician isn't all kiddie shows and card tricks. Sometimes it's murder. Especially when magician Eli Marks very publicly debunks a famed psychic, and said psychic ends up dead. The evidence, including a bloody King of Diamonds playing card (one from Eli's own Ambitious Card routine), directs the police right to Eli. As more psychics are slain, and more King cards rise to the top, Eli can't escape suspicion. Things get really complicated when romance blooms with a beautiful psychic, and Eli discovers she's the next target for murder, and he's scheduled to die with her.

Enjoyable story, good narrator, voice grating
This series is enjoyable and characters are engaging, very intriguing insight into performance magic. Sadly, the narrator, although having a tolerable speaking voice for the main character, but does terrible versions of voices for most other characters, esp uses horrible voice fry for all “older” character voices. Very unpleasant to listen to.

Historia
Eli's trip to London with his uncle Harry quickly turns homicidal when the older magician finds himself accused of murder. A second slaying does little to take the spotlight off Harry. Instead it's clear someone is knocking off Harry's elderly peers in bizarrely effective ways. But who? The odd gets odder when the prime suspect appears to be a bitter performer with a grudge who committed suicide over 30 years before. While Eli struggles to prove his uncle's innocence - and keep them both alive - he finds himself embroiled in a battle of his own.

Historia
The request was a first for Eli Marks: "Can you help me make my tuba disappear?" Magician (and magic shop owner) Eli Marks is confronted with this odd demand just before he is about to close up shop for the day. Over the next few tense minutes, he finds a solution to that question which also, fortunately, puts him the positive side of what turns out to be a life-or-death situation.

adequate story, unpleasant narrator’s voice
Revisado: 02-13-22
While the story was somewhat funny in parts and the story line idea had merit, the narrator’s voice was so very unpleasant to listen to it ruined this audiobook for me. Her whiney, nasal, croaky reading was full of voice fry and i would not select a book read by this narrator again

Historia
For the Sake of the Game is the latest volume in the award-winning series from New York Times best-selling editors Laurie R. King and Leslie S. Klinger, with stories of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, and friends in a variety of eras and forms. King and Klinger have a simple formula: Ask some of the world's greatest writers-regardless of genre - to be inspired by the stories of Arthur Conan Doyle. The results are surprising and joyous.

extremely unpleasant main character
Revisado: 01-31-22
while i enjoyed some of the CBC TV shows, a Canadian version of this book series, being exposed to this main character at length is not entertaining. the story line maybe interesting but sharing time with the main character is a trial and unpleasant. possibly a draw for someone who enjoys ongoing; angst, anger and depression as entertainment. i find it pathological, more work then diversion
