Mostly Good
Revisado: 04-01-25
I love the story--mosy of it. Once again the poems are overdone. I have to skip them cuz they are so freaking annoying. I dont know if it's the poems themselves or the way they are read.
Also, Lenoir Dove is overdone and unbelievable.

Just Stupid and Unnecessary
Revisado: 03-21-25
I don't know what the heck the author was wanting to get at, but this is the stupidest most unnecessary storyline. Sue was stupid and unnecessary the whole story, and the ending was also stupid and unnecessary. That sums it up.

Confusing and Unbelievable
Revisado: 12-21-24
The story would have been much better if there wasn't so many unlikelies in it. Also, there's so many cliffhangers left unanswered cuz they jump to another character and bout time they get back to the cliffhanger you've done forgot about it.
You know how hard it is to paint from memory? it's bout impossible. . ..and then he was painting from someone else's description and got it right? Not buying it.
His daughter acted like a pirate when she didn't even know him? That's not something you inherit.. He stole cuz he had nothing and needed to eat. She stole cuz she was just bad, made me not like her.
I think this story is "eh". The author was trying too hard and dumped all kinds of unlikelies into one story. Felt like a Hallmark crime story and I hate Hallmark stories, they're so over "inspiring" and everyone's teeth are bleach white.

Just Listen to it! You won't be able to turn it off
Revisado: 12-11-24
I was out of audiobooks for the month and searched around for a free one. I stumbled on this one and was instantly swallowed up.
It is such an enwrapping thriller! I could not figure out the mystery until it was revealed. Now I need to listen to more of his books.

England, 1914. The world is at war. Captain Hastings, injured and shaken, is invited to Styles Court to recover. It’s a grand old country house - the family home of his old friend - and a perfect haven. Or so it seems. But in the blistering summer heat, trouble is afoot. Simmering tensions are tearing the family apart, and it all comes to a head in the most horrifying way.

Rather Annoying
Revisado: 12-01-24
I listened to the end but the different sounds were so annoying--like the eating sounds and smoking sounds and out of place laughs. Also I found the trial forced and shallow. When I finally found out who the murderers were I wasn't even sure what characters it was cuz it was hard to remember all the names.

Riveting Story from a Child's Point of View
Revisado: 11-26-24
I got into this story instantly and it held me all the way. It's mysterious, childlike, deep, and heart wrenching all told from the height of a nine-year-old, which softens it up a bit.

Now, we follow him "Down Under" to Australia with this delectably funny, fact-filled, and adventurous performance that combines humor, wonder, and unflagging curiosity. More from Bill Bryson.

Shockingly Captivating
Revisado: 11-01-24
I wouldn't think an eleven hour book about someone stumbling around Australia, looking at trees and stopping at pubs, would be captivating, but it totally is. Bryson's wit and humor made me laugh several times, and he has a talented story telling ability. All I'm going to say is, listen to the book, alright?

Felt Cheesy at first, then became engaging
Revisado: 07-11-24
The plot felt a bit predictable, like the author took the Hunger Games and did his own spin. . . even down to the rebellious song. In the end, at the school, it became quite interesting. I think I'll listen to the next book.

Riveting Story, Aggravating Voice
Revisado: 05-15-24
The story is a fitting telling for the roots of the hunger games. It's very clever and convincing. I just don't like the narrator, especially when he does the women's voices or the nauseating ballads. But perhaps that was the point, he certainly gives Snow a barfy aura. I'm sure it's hard reading weird Ballard lines out loud and trying to make them sound good, poor guy.
