Historia
What if you could travel back in time 100 years and right the wrongs of the past—would you take the risk? “Sundown: A Time Travel Society Mystery” is a wildly imaginative podcast from Michael Dante DiMartino, the co-creator of the animated classics “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “The Legend of Korra.” “Sundown” explores the story of a group of teens who go back into the past and uncover secrets about themselves, their families, their town—and America. 17-year-old Darius Hightower (played by Emmy-nominated actor Asante Blackk of “When They See Us”) is just about the only Black person in his small New England town of Norhaven. Adopted by a wealthy white family when he was a baby, Darius has learned to keep his head down and not challenge his family or its history. But when the outspoken Sanaa Starr (played by NAACP Image Award-winner Storm Reid of “Euphoria”) transfers to his high school and starts asking questions, Darius re-examines the truth about his ancestors’ involvement in the town’s most infamous murder. A time capsule from 1920 may hold some clues, but when Norhaven’s most powerful conspire to destroy its contents, it’s up to Darius, Sanaa, and their friends (including “Reservation Dogs” star Devery Jacobs) to investigate what really happened. After a strange incident sends them back 100 years to the scene of the crime, their fact-finding mission becomes life-or-death. Forced to confront their town’s prejudiced past, the teens race against time in order save an innocent man’s life and clear his name. “Sundown” is a sci-fi mystery adventure like you’ve never heard before.

Preachy wish fulfillment
Revisado: 04-25-25
The fact that they had the gall to literally say the words “your podcast made quite the difference” after such a shallow mystery where the only investigation was just having the story of the night laid out in front of them by members of the community is appalling. Some can enjoy this, but I’m exhausted of the token white guy being the butt of the joke trope. The whole thing was contrivance after contrivance leading to someone else getting the evidence together. I got preached at for hours and that’s not enjoyable, it’s exhausting.

Hits just the right line
Revisado: 03-24-25
Urban fantasy and true blue police mystery are wonderful genres and this manages to blend them wonderfully instead of falling too far into one versus the other. The mystery is great. The magic is interesting. And you can easily find yourself getting lost in this version of London. Wonderfully done

For Detective Faustino Brier, this wasn't the first, and he knew it wouldn't be the last. Isolated and locked away from the world in a shadowy lab, a little boy known only as Subject "D" waits, grows, learns. He's permitted to speak to no one.

Very impressive, weird title
Revisado: 03-04-25
Great story, the ending was lovely. But the title honestly makes no sense to the story. Feels like it should have a sequel but that’d never happen

Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

You know where it’s going and that’s okay
Revisado: 02-25-25
Great performance, great world with a human minority. It’s pretty quickly evident where it’s going but it’s a two hour listen, doing it quick and well is absolutely amazing for a lovely story that gets a wonderful idea through. And Scalzi always does phenomenal execution for doing a story with a cool premise. Just let the premise go wild and have fun with it.

Just love that this is here
Revisado: 02-25-25
Read it online, heard it on Creep Cast, and now to official. It’s just a well done story. The fear factor is great. The characters are good. The atmosphere is impeccable. It just fits together so well. Just seeing something that went from purely online to properly published makes me happy.
I would say while I’m glad that he had concerns about doing a Native American story while not being Indigenous, we didn’t need a ten minute dissertation about it, your academic history is showing in the worst way there. You shouldn’t have to bring up the fact that you put a lot of thought for doing those characters. They’re human… that’s the cheat code to doing people of any ethnicity well. They are humans not stereotypes.

Historia
A century ago, the Sentience Wars tore the galaxy apart and nearly ended the entire concept of intelligent space-faring life. In the aftermath, a curious tradition was invented - something to cheer up everyone who was left and bring the shattered worlds together in the spirit of peace, unity, and understanding. Once every cycle, the civilizations gather for the Metagalactic Grand Prix - part gladiatorial contest, part beauty pageant, part concert extravaganza, and part continuation of the wars of the past.

Want some story with your descriptive world building?
Revisado: 02-19-25
First, it’s undoubtedly a poor man’s Hitchhikers Guide. Except the characters and plot are minuscule, it’s more shallow non-sequiturs and just random referential humor that falls short than story. The entirety of the plot Eurovision for the universe where the loser world gets exterminated would work better as just world building for a larger story, by itself there’s just not enough there. Especially with such flat characters who only angst and have writer’s block in the most boring ways. The most fun is the alien world snapshots that don’t go farther than just being there. If those alien snapshots were actually incorporated into an actual story instead of a flat contrived plot this might have been more entertaining.
Honestly, if it wasn’t for the fact that I could listen to Heath Miller read a phone book I wouldn’t have been able to finish this book. Especially when it became apparent that subjective music taste was such a big part of the plot where the aliens want not catchy hits but emotional screaming and the author obviously knows very little about music since so the most emotional genres are excluded (because they’re not British enough). Also, for a rock focused story, it’s so far from rock it’s like any semblance of rock was made by aliens especially glam rock. Heath made this book worth the time and I’m glad I didn’t spend a credit on this story.

Hunting for humour in this “humorous” space opera
Revisado: 02-11-25
I was interested in the idea of a funny space opera. Was given a poorly thought out quantum entanglement, a captain who would have been mutinied against immediately, way too much focus on just weirdly phrased descriptions, and then a bland space opera that was forced into existence by a bland idiot. If there was some greater attempt at humor I’d like it more. I also wouldn’t be surprised if this was written by a teenager, to be shocked by the author’s profile. I’m glad I didn’t pay for this title, for free it’s fine, but just fine

Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Fascinating idea
Revisado: 08-20-24
The idea itself and how it affects the world is fascinating, the execution is also great. Part of me just wants more to explore more ways of this idea being used, but I can understand not wanting to overkill an interesting idea, I've seen good ideas get written to their own detriment and death far too many times

Dear Gods Twitter is NOT real life
Revisado: 08-20-24
It was decent enough until the ending. I came in expecting something like the menu. Something that looks at high society and mocks it. Removes the teeth of the real world and gives you the surreal. But the cast are the most surreal parts because it's as if twitter became real people. I thought there was going to be a turn because there was never any confirmation of the allegations against movie star not even in the end climax.
Spoilers here. If you had just made the weapons marlin was using props the whole time and made it so Ivy and Michel were really blowing everything out of proportion because the man was legitimately going through a mental breakdown with every chance taken away from him, it could have saved it. On the flip side, any actual confirmation and more extreme action throughout could have saved it. It was just an extra step on either side and it would have been good. But instead this tries for realism if Twitter was reality which is just bad.
Good narration though
