Historia
John Irving returns to the themes that established him as one of our most admired and beloved authors in this absorbing novel of fate and memory. As we grow older - most of all, in what we remember and what we dream - we live in the past. Sometimes we live more vividly in the past than in the present. As an older man, Juan Diego will take a trip to the Philippines, but what travels with him are his dreams and memories; he is most alive in his childhood and early adolescence in Mexico.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 06-14-16
I love John Irving's books - usually ! This one just didn't grab me. I was kind of bored and it bounced back and forth between the past and the present, making it hard to follow. Disappointed.

Stupid plot with a twist at the end that made the rest of the book make no sense. Waste of time.

Historia
A peaceful Minnesota town, where crime is something that just doesn’t happen, is about to face its worst nightmare. A young boy disappears. There are no witnesses, no clues — only a note, cleverly taunting, casually cruel. Has a cold-blooded kidnapper struck? Or is this the reawakening of a long-quiet serial killer?

Too much like a romance novel
Revisado: 01-19-16
Besides the narrator mispronouncing "composite" numerous times, the characters were one dimensional and the story seemed to interrupt corny romantic scenes between the two unlike able main characters.

A luminous, powerful novel that establishes Rachel Cusk as one of the finest writers in the English language. A man and a woman are seated next to each other on a plane. Wordy and boring
Revisado: 02-12-15
Every character went on and on with their stories and opinions. There never seemed to be a point. I don't even know why it was called Outline. I fell asleep at the end and it is too boring to go back and listen to it.

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-26-15
The narrator was good but I started rolling my eyes at the female characters . I won't give away the plot but there was a point where I just didn't like any of the females and I wondered how this guy could possibly be around so many unbalanced women. I felt kind of annoyed at the end.

Stupid story, poorly written and so poorly narrated, it was almost impossible to listen to. I would suggest the girl who narrated should find something that doesn't involve acting or reading aloud and the author should not give up his day job

Worst Stephen King book ever!
Revisado: 12-03-14
I have read all of his work and this is the first time I was bored, indifferent about the characters and just thought the story was lame. Very disappointing. Has he finally run out of interesting ideas? Even if you are an avid fan, I wouldn't bother with this one.

Historia
Alone in an empty house, Lucy tries to imagine the lives of her two young children. They have been gone for seven years, and she is tormented by the role she played in that heartbreaking loss. You can hardly see a glimpse of the sexy, edgy woman she used to be. Back then, she was a magnet for men like Matt, who loved her beyond reason, and Griffin, who wouldn't let go but always left her wanting more. Now the lies they told and the choices they made have come to haunt all three of them.

Disappointing Ending
Revisado: 07-24-14
I found the male narrator's voice kind of annoying, but the story was good and it hit a nerve with me when it took an unexpected turn in the storyline. However, the ending felt like he just didn't know how to end it. It was disappointing and I was left feeling like the story was left hanging. As a writer myself, I can think of 10 different endings that would have been better.

Another Satisfying Book by Anne Tyler
Revisado: 05-08-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Digging to America to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version.
What did you like best about this story?
I love the characters - how real and believable they are.
What does Blair Brown bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She uses accents to give personality to the characters.
Any additional comments?
Anne Tyler books lend themselves well to audio books. Her characters feel so real when the books are read out loud.
