Historia
We have all pondered seemingly unanswerably but significant questions about our existence - the biggest of all being, "Why are we here?" Philosophy has developed over millennia to help us grapple with these essential intangibles. There is no better way to study the big questions in philosophy than to compare how the world's greatest minds have analyzed these questions, defined the terms, and then reasoned out potential solutions. Once you've compared the arguments, the final step is always deciding for yourself whether you find an explanation convincing.

Excellent lecturer. Fun topic to explore.
Revisado: 09-29-24
The lecturer is fun, engaging, and makes a heady topic enjoyable. Give the scope of this course, it's more of a meta-analysis of the existing thoughts around these topics. But he does a good job summarizing the current art and still got into the weeds a little. Would listen again.

Good nuggets on innovation, not ground breaking
Revisado: 08-24-20
This book reviews the role that collaboration and mistakes play in innovation. It tells some anecdotes from famous innovators to illustrate these points.
Overall, nothing extraordinary, but provides a good refresher and context around these core ideas.

Excellent book, excellent summary
Revisado: 07-22-19
Grit follows many ideas of high level self improvement ideas and works to make the tangible and actionable. Growth Mindset, purpose, etc. It’s worth reading and will give you some gems to take out of this book into your real (non-reading) life. Highly recommended.
The narration of this book is really excellently done. It’s thoughtful and done with an interest to help you understand the material rather than just rambling through points as quickly as possible.

Great storytelling but a bit disjointed
Revisado: 03-30-17
With so many different stories from different times, it can be a bit hard to follow. Professor Aldrete is a great story teller and keeps it interested, but after a while the stories start to blend together.

The ancient world has cast a long shadow, influencing our customs and religious beliefs, our laws, and the form of our governments. It has taught us when and how we make war or pursue peace. It has shaped the buildings we live and work in and the art we hang on our walls. It has given us the calendar that organizes our year and has left its mark on the games we play.

Top 1% of All History Courses You'll Take
- De Tommy D'Angelo en 05-23-17
Fantastic! Ignore any negative reviews.
Revisado: 02-24-17
This is one of the best of the great course and I've listened to quite a few. Professor Aldrete is energetic, engaging, and has a great way of including anecdotes to keep, what can be a very dense topic, light and memorable.
Ignore all the negative reviews about the course material being too centered on Rome and Greece. The course is very well thought out and presented in such a way to draw juxtaposition between a variety of ancient cultures.
In terms of entertainment value, I think I finished this book in 4 days. Listening in stints of up to 8 hours at a time. I could not recommend this course highly enough. I will be immediately looking for anything else taught by Professor Aldrete.

Historia
A smart and funny book by a prominent Harvard psychologist, which uses groundbreaking research and (often hilarious) anecdotes to show us why we’re so lousy at predicting what will make us happy–and what we can do about it. Most of us spend our lives steering ourselves toward the best of all possible futures, only to find that tomorrow rarely turns out as we had expected. Why? As Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert explains, when people try to imagine what the future will hold, they make some basic and consistent mistakes.

Interesting ideas, poorly organized
Revisado: 08-14-16
Overall, I'm glad I read it. Interesting ideas, thought provoking topics, and nice anecdotal comedy. But it was rather disorganized and didn't seem to have a consistent path.

Revisado: 07-21-16
If you're interested in learning about Buddhism as a practice, this is a great start. The author is eloquent and makes it understandable by using analogy. It's a good read, and although the entertainment factor isnt huge, as a learning tool, it's something I'll reread several times.

Amazingly unique individual.
Revisado: 06-19-16
Elon is an absolutely amazing person. I even hesitate using the term person. An inspiring story and a truly unique viewpoint. Very inspiring individual.
The reading was very nice and made it easy to listen to. Even kept up a South African accent when quoting Musk.
The writing was just OK. Seemed a bit glorified in my opinion and more presented the facts than really writing ABOUT them. If that makes any sense.
Overall, not the best biography I've read, but worth reading just to know about Elon.

Historia
In this groundbreaking book, journalist and innovation expert Warren Berger shows that one of the most powerful forces for igniting change in business and in our daily lives is a simple, underappreciated tool - one that has been available to us since childhood. Questioning - deeply, imaginatively, "beautifully" - can help us identify and solve problems, come up with game-changing ideas, and pursue fresh opportunities. So why are we often reluctant to ask "Why?"
