I saw this mini series in 1983 as a television movie. I read the book in 1994, so I was curious about the audiobook. This story gets better each time I read or listen to it. I highly recommend this book. It’s a good good mystery, but not to the reader. A surprise in every chapter.

Gripping & Grueling

I served with the 1st Marine Division in Iraq. Throughout my 20 year career in the Marines, I had never heard such an personal in depth account of these two major battles in WWII. If you have watched the Pacific, then you will notice the actor who played Sledge in the war, narrated the book. This book not only shows the horror of war, but the heroism, bravery and courage of the U. S. Marines, which is instilled in the Marines of today.

This is a decent book, filling in the blanks of Helter Skelter. However, there are a lot of inaccuracies.
