By "humanizing both sides" they pretty much mean convincing you that the nobles who are living off the sweat of the laborers have it really rough because of... arranged marriages? That they could actually just bail on, bu then they'd have to live without those sweet nobility perks like consistently having enough to eat, unlike the laborers. And that laborers are violent and horrible, and should have just waited patently while the nobility continues to change nothing.

DNF because this one was definitely not for me. It looks like a self-insert where the MC is really just a jerk to everyone and yet all the women want him. He's a jerk because nobody automatically respects the authority his cooking skills (that he didn't actually have to work to acquire?) is supposed to give him. And speaking of all the women... I only got 10 chapters in and every single one was screaming, crying, or being manipulative. I'm also not sure the author has actually met a 50 year old.
I was hoping for humor and possibly wit, but there was none of either.

The man is not too bright and abusive. You knew what the plot points were going to be well beforehand and it took forever to get to them after they were so obviously broadcast. Should have been about half the length to avoid repeating the same angst over and over.

The book blurb I read didn't mention the harem aspect, I'm not sure why. I gave it at try even though I'm not really into books written to treat women as interchangeable slot Bs.
The writing isn't bad. The lit-rpg aspects are kind of fun, but I could have done with more story and less face to genital action. I'm pretty sure that the main character's genitalia is mentioned in every single scene.

A fun look at the practical side of fantasy

For me the second book in a series is usually a bit of a disappointment, but this one exceeded my expectations. The humor and interactions between characters speaks more to me of Terry Pratchett's Discworld than any of the newer fantasy novels that have to scream that they're like Discworld. I would recommend this series to anyone who's into fantasy novels or games.
