Book 1, pretty good, but then
Revisado: 03-21-25
each successive book just got worse and worse. I don't think a SINGLE 'bad guy' that got cornered didn't pee on himself... literally not one I can remember. By book 4 I was able to pick out 'the bad guy' as soon as he was introduced. EVERY single woman Joe deals with is gorgeous and ALL his allies are brilliant. It's predictable to the extreme, silly at times and they make the DUMBEST decisions, miss the most OBVIOUS conclusions... I spent more time shaking my head than anything. No more Joe Dillard combo books for me!!

Nowhere man or propaganda?
Revisado: 02-27-25
I have loved this series. One of my all time favorites but like several of my other favorite authors, he decided to use the story to highlight some of the troubles our country has been experiencing. Whether I agree with the author or not isn't the point. I read/listen to FICTION to get away from the day to day issues of the real world. Please, keep your political ideology OUT of the Nowhere Man series. One more like this and I'll have to stop reading/listening to this series.

I disliked the fact that everyone was having a VERY difficult time in gathering supplies except for the escaped mental hospital killer. He was able to simply walk in, hit people, even armed people, and pick all the supplies he wanted, camping supplies, food, clothes and water. He had no problem in gathering his supplies while the normal people had a very difficult time even getting water.

John Connolly takes battered ex-cop Charlie Parker on his third outing after Every Dead Thing and Dark Hollow. Still struggling with the horrific ghosts of his past, Parker is now a disillusioned private eye hired to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Grace Peltier - which neither her father nor a former US senator believes was suicide. The trail leads to a mass grave in Northern Maine where a Baptist community disappeared 40 years earlier.

Turned into a very tedious book
Revisado: 05-22-24
Too many similies and too many metaphors. The author got tied up trying to be overly descriptive and ended up using way too many similes and metaphors. The "bad guy" was not anywhere near believable. Spiders just aren't 'attack' Spiders like dogs are. They just don't rush toward humans to attack. Granted, the premise is creepy but the execution left a lot to be desired. And I got really tired of the hero going into his 'visions' and seeing and feeling the dead. This will be the last of this series for me.

Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to coexist peacefully as equals, without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. But the peace has also made humanity complacent.

This was simply horrible
Revisado: 05-14-24
Trust me, ignore the obvious fanboys/fangirls reviewing this. Book 1 was put good, book 2 was OK. This book is like the author thought to himself, "books 1&2 did better than I ever expected! If I don't write a third book, it's like leaving money on the table!!!"
It was a rambling MESS! Very difficult to follow, little to no obvious plot, just the ramblings of an obviously imaginative mind but with no direction. It jumped from history to future to present to history, many many times. The further into the book the WILDER the science became until finally, the "rules" themselves were meaningless.
There were times when I thought, man that's pretty cool, it's starting to finally pick up... only to go back to "why the heck am I still listening".
If this has been a physical book, I would have put it down long ago but since I could just listen, I could let it drone on in the background and not pay much attention to it... that's how I finished.
And the main character... she was a blundering moron. The Chinese views and morals came through in this book very heavy handedly. I'm sure the Chinese people can say that about American authors. This is just my opinion. He had an American making good, strategic, long ten plans that benefited ALL mankind and then he had the main character making HORRIBLE decisions, one right after the other. And then SHE is the one everyone wants to SAVE... AFTER she doomed everyone. Like ..... WTF???
Terrible book... had some shining moments but... 70% of it was terrible.

Revisado: 03-22-24
I enjoyed this book ok. Sanford has been my favorite author for decades now. I LOVE his books. Lucas, Virgil, Kidd... characters that you can relate too. His writing style is very unique and no matter how hard I try, I can never find another author with the same style, not even close. This book though just felt, forced maybe. For me, it just didn't have his usual flow. This time, he decided to interject his politics into the book which disappointed me greatly. I don't read these type of books to get a morality speech from the author.

In a spellbinding new masterpiece by #1 New York Times bestselling author Daniel Silva, Gabriel Allon undertakes a high-stakes search for the greatest art forger who ever lived. Legendary spy and art restorer Gabriel Allon has at long last severed ties with Israeli intelligence and settled quietly in Venice, the only place where he has ever truly known peace. His beautiful wife, Chiara, has taken over the day-to-day management of the Tiepolo Restoration Company, and their two young children are discreetly enrolled in a neighborhood scuola elementare.

my last Gabrielle Allon novel
Revisado: 04-01-23
First I'm tired of Mr. Silva throwing his politics into the novels. It's tiring and boring.
Next the book was very formulaic just like so many of his books. A target is identified, Gabrielle Allon is the ONLY person in the world who can catch the target. He develops a plan, works in the background unbeknownst to the target, just as Gabrielle is about to spring his trap the target figures it out and throws a wrench into the plan. That draws the book out for a few more hundred pages until Gabrielle succeds. It was boring and predictable.
Last the narrator was horrible. All his voices sounded the same and except for the American characters they ALL had the same accent regardless of country of origin.

More Tedious DEI pandering
Revisado: 03-18-23
Eisler has lost his thread. I enjoyed the first few of his Rain novels but the last few have slowly devolved into the current DEI pandering. The first in this series he couldn't decide if it was a love story, a comedy or an action novel. Now his characters take pages to review their internal thoughts. Thinking the same things over and over. And there is TOO much 'old white men' causing all the problems, only women can solve the issues, like men only explain things to women "mansplaining" as if men don't explain things to OTHER MEN! And now he has to include gay men. I could care LESS if a character is a man, women, gay, straight, Latino... whatever, but leave out the propaganda in your novels.
Also, Another theme that has pervaded his novels is all the top level bass guys are ALL US Government officials. Mr. Eisler obviously does NOT like the USA and makes of very clear in his novels.
I also wish he would stop his characters having the eternal introspection that takes pages to go over. Also, really, these 40 and 50 year old men can't openly talk to women? "I know I should have told her I missed her but it just couldn't come out, why can't I tell her, what am I afraid of" and on and on and on and on and on... then later in the novel he repeats the same internal soliloquy. I end up fast forwarding over and over to just get past all that.
And DOX is just getting OLD. His accent is simply silly and he takes 2 pages to say something that he could day in a couple sentences. NOBODY from the south talks like him but in his novels EVERYONE automatically recognizes him from TEXAS! Mr. Eisler need to live in Texas for a while to learn how people from Texas speaks.

Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

The last Daniel Silva book I'll read
Revisado: 11-30-22
Mr. Silva has decided to follow numerous other authors and is his book to spout his own political views. During the entire Gabriel Allon series he has painted his own country, the USA, in a poor light while always making Israel the apparent light of the world. In not sure why he doesn't simply move to Israel but I've listened to the series because on the whole the stories have been entertaining.
This book however he continually talks about the "far right" from Germany to Italy and Russia and America while painting Israel had the model of Liberal beliefs, caring and accepting of all people and immigrants. Yeah, that sounds like Isreal... then the end of the book he simply recounts the events of the end of President Trump's term with a twist. An assassination attempt carried out by the "far right" arm of the American Gov...
We get it Daniel, you're a Liberal who hates Trump but if I wanted a discourse in American politics I would buy that type of book! Stick to fiction and leave your politics out of your books.
In the end this is simply another author using his books to bash the US Republicans because like all Liberals he believes if your not a Liberal you simply CAN NOT be right about anything.

not as good as the first book
Revisado: 11-16-22
started out good but turned into a feel good "woke" festival at the end. Was supposed to be science fiction but turned into something influenced by current political issues. At the end no explanation is provided for how it turned out. The main characters apparently have no part in shaping the outcome.
My opinion of this book is "MEH" ... called part of a trilogy but if the 3rd book ever get published I won't waste my money on it.
