Historia
Crime reporter Joe Carpenter lost his wife and two daughters in the crash of Flight 353. Joe is unable to work, think, or do anything but grieve, and wait for his own death. Then Joe meets Rose, a woman who claims to be the crash’s sole survivor. But before Joe can probe further, the elusive Rose slips away and Joe is left with haunting questions: If Rose lived through the crash, is it possible his family could have survived it, too? Did the authorities conspire to hide what really happened that night? Joe’s search for the truth will shatter him - and force him to question everything he thinks he knows about life and death.

Slow then sudden data dump
Revisado: 01-25-25
A long pleasant listen overall ... but - very - drawn - out. Then a sudden gallop to the finish. In the last hour, I felt like I was watching Oprah - "you get some" and " you get some" and "EVERYONE GETS SOME ". (facepalm) An satisfactory ending. (shrug)
I realize some people really enjoy enjoy this style. Not for me.

A little jumpy but good overall
Revisado: 12-11-24
This book jumps back and forth in time. However, it was very good overall. The voice acting was very well done and each individual character was easily distinguishable without being prefaced by an annoying X said and Y stated. I would recommend this book.

Historia
Agent Isaac Steele has problems. He spends all his splibs on drink and drugs. He has some deep-seated and very much unresolved issues with his parents. And his robotic partner at Greatest Britain’s Department of Clarification, Dr Timothy Stephens, is ruled more by his heart than his hard drive. But all these issues take a back seat when Isaac stumbles upon a case involving the most sensitive information in the cosmos - a Never File, inaccessible to all except those with the highest clearance. He is expressly forbidden to involve himself. So naturally he does.

Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Please bring back ACTUAL**VOICE** ACTORS
Revisado: 11-20-24
I truly appreciate that Audible includes these books with our membership.
however, can we please leave video actors on the screen? there is a vast difference between screen acting and voice acting. it is painfully obvious in books such as this one. It appears the only voice acting lessons that the two main stars received was in how to enunciate words. Congratulations! I heard every single syllable very clearly. painfully clearly. no acting just every single syllable. I would much rather have an artificial intelligence robot read me the book quite frankly.
also, the sound engineer needs to go back to school. I believe the sound engineer felt that the listeners were falling asleep between scenes and therefore felt the need to blast the music to 30 times the volume that the voices were at. I was not asleep. The music between the scenes was incredibly and painfully loud. I was constantly scrambling for the volume, completely ridiculous.
(My son has a multi-year degree in sound engineer and video engineering so I do speak with some knowledge about these matters)
I miss the days when actual actors could act. there are too many actors on screen already that are only there because they are beautiful to look at. The two actors in this book are very talented when they are on screen. these two actors, however, do not have the prerequisite voice training required for voice acting.
Also, the sound coloring between the voices in the book was atrocious. For example, the footsteps: it did not matter how fast or how slow the action was progressing. the footsteps sounded as though someone was sleepwalking! no matter if we were chasing a subject or walking slowly towards someone. It was completely maddening.
Please take a lesson from the Masters in full story audiobooks:
sometimes late at night. you can find old radio programs that are literally called " those old radio shows'. these are wonderful examples of true radio dramas. the sound engineers were artists and quite often the voice actors in them had were true actors and truly entertaining. Again, audible; I truly appreciate that these books are free. however, please take a week or two, perhaps a month or two more to polish them and make them the works of art that I know they can be after listening to radio programs from days gone by.
Thank you

fairly good for a free listen
Revisado: 11-18-24
I may be judging this harshly since this is the second book in a row. I have listened to that featured as a main plot line. a memory issue. the pros was good. the characters were never fully developed. I feel I never got to know the characters well. The snow storm seemed a bit contrived. Otherwise it was a pleasant distracting listen. all I expected from this book was to be distracted and relaxed and this is exactly what I received from this book. overall, I would recommend this book.

I wanted to try a book from this author for free before I purchased one. I was really happy with this read. The story flowed very well. the narration was really good. The characters were believable. The mother was neurotic and very worried all the time which pretty much describes me as a mother, LOL.
I do recommend this book to other readers/ listeners.
