Strong start to the series

After really enjoying the Four Bears Construction series, I was glad to see KM Neuhold had another series featuring mechanics this time. Finally Porter gets his HEA! And I’m so ready for Gates and Tal’s story next. Tim and Liam are a great narrating duo.

Should have read the e-book

The story concept was interesting, but the execution was so cringe. I’m not sure how much was the narrators that were chosen and how much was that the intimate scenes were written awkwardly. It was uncomfortable to listen to, which was unfortunate because the story about the barn and the journal, with the parallels to the MCs was good.

Excellent narration

I’m not familiar with either of these narrators, but thought they were both great. After DNFing a couple of other books from the plus library I really enjoyed this one. The spy novel aspect of this rom-com isn’t my usual read but gave it interest, as did the stuff about grief/cancer.

Where it all began

Fake out is a favourite reread (relisten) for me and the beginning of the Sadenverse. I love going back to the beginning of Damon’s career as a sports agent and where he and Maddox first meet and fall in love. Alexander and Iggy do an excellent job of the narration and are one of my favourite duos of all time. They only get better as this series continues.

Iggy Toma is a fantastic narrator and probably what salvaged this book for me. The story wasn’t particularly interesting, the main characters didn’t draw me in, the use of diary entries for one of the MCs gave a weird detached retelling of key details rather than bringing them to life in the narrative and there was too much focus on the angst around religious intolerance and not enough swoony romance to balance it out.

Love this story!

I’ve done a few re-listens to this series now and absolutely love it! Probably my favourite Nick J Russo narration so far (his voice works so well for the Atrous boys). Love the way NR Walker writes the characters and their humour (the late night talk show scene, the first sound check/rehearsal scene, Jeremy as a supporting character). Great balance of humour, drama and steam.

Enjoyable follow up

Love how Nick J Russo brought these characters to life and enjoyed hearing Jeremy and Steve’s story having met them in Code Red. There’s something about the use of “Dickbag” as a term of endearment that I find utterly charming. Personally, I find the song lyrics a bit cringe and unnecessary, but otherwise it’s a sweet love story with a good amount of angst.

The thing that bugged me most about this book is that she made the male protagonist mute, but wrote dialogue as though he was communicating verbally. When you have to type/write everything you want to say, you speak far more succinctly and conversation doesn’t flow the same way it does verbally.
