Historia
Liesl Bannon has never felt like she was truly at home anywhere, not since her mother placed her and her brother Erich on the last Kindertransport out of Berlin in 1939. She’d been so much more fortunate than most Jews, saved from the horrors of the Nazi regime. Being adopted by Elizabeth and Daniel Lieber meant she and Erich spent the war in Northern Ireland, safe and loved, but Liesl always knew something was missing. When an opportunity to return to Berlin to represent her university presents itself, she is so torn.

The war is over but the fight continues
Revisado: 01-10-23
Just when you think the story is over, Jean Grainger finds a way to draw you deeper into the characters lives as they search for a new normal and what they are willing to do move forward. It is a story of the triumph of the human spirit and brings hope that the division that exists today may one day be replaced with love.

Great story, wonderful recording
Revisado: 06-15-22
The story draws you in and you don’t want to stop listening. The narrator brings the characters to life and the music really draws you into the moment.
A fun story for anyone who likes music and magic and especially for those who know they are connected.

Historia
Every hero works to soothe the fears of the people during their period in history. Heroes are not only brave, but they’re also able to navigate the convoluted corridors of society, and to see through the respectable pretense of others to detect the evil that lies within. So, who better to take on the foggy, crime-ridden streets and strict social mores of Victorian London than the iconic literary detective Sherlock Holmes? In Sherlock Holmes: Beyond the Elementary, you’ll investigate the history behind Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s whip-smart, charismatic detective.

Interesting insight
Revisado: 03-18-22
This relatively short listen provides interesting insight into the Holmes stories. I found it especially interesting how it discusses the way the changes in Victorian society is addressed in the character of Holmes.

Historia
A classic of medieval Italian literature, Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decameron still matters for us today. And Boccaccio scholar Kristina Olson reveals why in the 10 lectures of Books that Matter: The Decameron. Here, you’ll listen between the lines of stories that range from hopeful and spiritual to cynical and bawdy. You’ll hear words turn a sinner into a saint, brutes made noble through the power of love, and riches rediscovered on the open seas.

Surprisingly interesting
Revisado: 10-01-21
When I started listening I had never heard of the Decameron. I was brought in by the title “Books that matter” and once I started listening and learned it was just about one specific book I considered quitting. I am glad I kept listening because the analysis was interesting and the narrator provided engaging summaries of the tales. If you enjoy literary analysis and learning about classic literature I would recommend listening to this.
