An good book that was poorly read
Revisado: 03-03-25
The book wasn’t listed as young adult and might not have come across as a YA story except for the reader. I personally enjoy some YA books but not when they are read so slowly, I began to wonder if the reader expected the listener to be intellectually challenged and so she read slowly so that it could be understood

Historia
Shari Franke’s childhood was a constant battle for survival. Her mother, Ruby Franke, enforced a severe moral code while maintaining a façade of a picture-perfect family for their wildly popular YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which documented the day-to-day life of raising six children for a staggering 2.5 million subscribers. But a darker truth lurked beneath the surface—Ruby’s wholesome online persona masked a more tyrannical parenting style than anyone could have imagined.

Amazing book
Revisado: 01-28-25
This is more a story of triumphing over the narcissistic world that her mother created than a detailed list of abuse. I was hesitant to buy this book because I didn’t want to hear a graphic accounting of each act of abuse. I expected to need to quit listening when that began. Thankfully that never occurred.
A well written, well read book.

Historia
For years, the Trader cities valiantly battled their enemies, the Chalcedeans. But they could not have staved off invasion without the powerful dragon, Tintaglia. In return, the Traders promised to help her serpents migrate up the Rain Wild River after a long exile at sea - to find a safe haven and, Tintaglia hopes, to restore her species. But too much time has passed, and the newly hatched dragons are damaged and weak, and many die.

Great story, horrible reading
Revisado: 12-27-24
I love books about dragons and this story delivered but the reader was so bad that it was hard to finish, I was only able to do that by speeding up the reading significantly

It had me at dragons
Revisado: 01-23-24
I absolutely love books about dragons that are well written. This book almost made it, although it could have been the reader that influenced that opinion. It was extremely difficult to distinguish the different characters when they spoke. Her 14 y/o companion was given an older male voice, no different than other older male voices. There are also multiple twist and turns that were difficult to keep up with. With some editing and a different reader the book could have been great.

Revisado: 01-23-24
Lettie Davenport is a chip off of the Lucas Davenport block. Only being small and female, she is often overlooked. Because she can be ignored as a threat, she can work behind the scenes. It is a new and interesting concept that John Sandford has developed.
He also is touching in the tricky topic of immigration. Mentioning dissatisfaction of job insecurity and the mass of humanity (mothers with small children) who are hungry and thirsty who are crossing our borders without ever taking a position as to what would be best served. Nor the reasons behind these issues.
It’s a great read, though provoking.

CJ Box always writes a good read
Revisado: 11-24-23
Box always writes a good read, this one was slightly lackluster. I’m not sure that I might have considered this book to have been much better if there had been a different reader. Ms LaVoy was unable to deliver the depth of caricature that was required to do justice to this story. I didn’t feel the since of urgency when hearing critical moments were heard. That being said, it was easy to put the book down and pick it up later.
I still enjoyed the book, I do like the continuation of storylines and I will read the next in the series.

What a ride
Revisado: 11-21-23
I found this book difficult to stop listening to, although it is darker than the other books I’ve read by C.J. Box, he managed to cove this topic without graphic violence which made the book enjoyable to read while covering a unenjoyable topic. The Hoyt/Dewell working relationship, while rocky, did compliment each other. Hoyt’s son Justin as well as the sisters Danelle and Gracie were also prominent characters with level headed Gracie taking care of her big sister again. There is a huge surprise twist that altered not only this book but future books in the series. It is well read by Mr Gram, worth a credit.

Historia
FBI agent Drex Easton is relentlessly driven by a single goal: to outmaneuver the con man once known as Weston Graham. Over the past 30 years, Weston has assumed many names and countless disguises, enabling him to lure eight wealthy women out of their fortunes before they disappeared without a trace, their families left without answers and the authorities without clues. The only common trait among the victims: a new man in their life who also vanished, leaving behind no evidence of his existence...except for one signature custom.

Not his best
Revisado: 12-19-22
While I have enjoyed the entire series, this book is just one war campaign. It didn’t add the complexity of interpersonal relationships that I have enjoyed in his previous books.
This did set up the series for a very interesting following book but this one disappointed me.

YA????????
Revisado: 01-18-21
I have always enjoyed a well written YA story and wanted this to be one. We can show affection, find love, find our partner without probing intimate places. Just too much sex for a YA story. The reader was also flat. She does well with normal conversations but shows no emotion when the story becomes tense or exciting.
