Historia
The Overstory unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fable that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An air force loadmaster in the Vietnam War is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan. An artist inherits 100 years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American chestnut. A hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light.

Still processing this book. Will take it within me forever. Lyrical prose, skilled storytelling, ginormous subject. Felt at times sacred, at times so melancolic.

Historia
As a farm girl in eastern Oregon, feeding bottles to bummer lambs and babysitting her little sister, Jackie Shannon Hollis expected to become a mother someday. After a series of failed relationships, she met Bill, the man she wanted to spend her life with. But he was a man who never wanted children. Saying I do meant saying I don't to a rite of passage her body had prepared her for since puberty.

a very nice memoir
Revisado: 01-15-24
Jackie Shannon is brought up as an ordinary small town countryside girl, destined to be a mother like every other woman. We follow her life in this autobiography, and witness she figuring out what desires were hers, what were her parents', what were societies'. We follow her looking for love, then finally finding it. We follow her looking for herself too. We see her deal with the decision of not having children, and how her life, and her husband's, evolved and formed from there.
The timeline is non linear, so we go back and forth on Jackie's life. It's a nice read, and by the end I feel I'm gonna miss a new friend.

He also offers examples from his own life (how he got out of $124K worth of debt, escaped the pressure to have a big wedding, and has thrived on social media by primarily ignoring it).

In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

Historia
Reese almost had it all: a loving relationship with Amy, an apartment in New York City, a job she didn't hate. She had scraped together what previous generations of trans women could only dream of: a life of mundane, bourgeois comforts. The only thing missing was a child. But then her girlfriend, Amy, detransitioned and became Ames, and everything fell apart. Now Reese is caught in a self-destructive pattern: avoiding her loneliness by sleeping with married men.

Are you tired of feeling f*cked up? If you are, Gary John Bishop has the answer. In this straightforward handbook, he gives you the tools and advice you need to demolish the slag weighing you down and become the truly unf--ked version of yourself. "Wake up to the miracle you are," he directs. "Here's what you've forgotten: You're a f--king miracle of being." It isn't other people that are standing in your way; it isn't even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive. It's yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself.

Good self-help book
Revisado: 01-16-19
As the review title indicates, it's a good self help book, sometimes too shallow, portraying carton like situations, but I guess some people could resonate with them. I'd say it's an overall worth listening to book, even for people who already live life in a more conscious way, because the thought framework it provides is quite useful, even tough some examples and situations seem a bit exaggerated or extreme.
