What does everyone in the modern world need to know? Renowned psychologist Jordan B. Peterson's answer to this most difficult of questions uniquely combines the hard-won truths of ancient tradition with the stunning revelations of cutting-edge scientific research. Humorous, surprising, and informative, Dr. Peterson tells us why skateboarding boys and girls must be left alone, what terrible fate awaits those who criticize too easily, and why you should always pet a cat when you meet one on the street.

Wisdom from the past for today
Revisado: 05-07-24
We need more rules of truth like these in our world today. We need to remember to treat the stranger like a brother and to encourage our children to grow, rather than protecting them from every little hardship of life. So much wisdom in the words of Jordan Peterson — I will be thinking of how I can become better and make the world better through my actions for a long time.

After escaping an abusive marriage, Cara Brookins had four children to provide for and no one to turn to but herself. In desperate need of a home but without the means to buy one, she did something incredible. Equipped only with YouTube instructional videos, a small bank loan and a mile-wide stubborn streak, Cara built her own house from the foundation up with a work crew made up of her four children. It would be the hardest thing she had ever done.

Rise Above
Revisado: 04-14-24
Cara Brookins certainly did rise above her challenges, and she brought her children along with her for the journey. What an incredible story of choosing to do more than just accept or survive terrible circumstances, but daily putting forth the effort to grow, improve, and rise.
Thanks for sharing the vulnerable experiences so we could benefit from both the tears and triumphs.

Historia
After everything that the citizens of Beartown have gone through, they are struck yet another blow when they learn that their beloved local hockey team will soon be disbanded. What makes it worse is the obvious satisfaction that all the former Beartown players, who now play for a rival team in Hed, take in that fact. Amidst the mounting tension between the two rivals, a surprising newcomer is handpicked to be Beartown's new hockey coach. Soon a new team starts to take shape around Amat, the fastest player you'll ever see; Benji, the crazed lone wolf; and Vidar, a born-to-be-bad troublemaker.

A lot of garbage for the payoff
Revisado: 08-28-23
I usually love Backman's work, but this one fell flat with me. The storyline and characters has: Too much negativity + corruption + terrible family and business scenarios. The payoff at the end was not big enough to have endured so much garbage. I kept with it thinking, "it is going to get better, it is going to get better", but it didn't get better until the VERY end, and it didn't compensate for the rest. Disappointing.

Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

Loved the book and appreciate all the research that went into creating such fascinating story of true events. My dad loved it, past it along to me, not my wife and daughter are reading or listening to it. Excellent book!

Roger Stringer grew up in rural Mississippi, hunting and eating everything from deer to rabbits. When he had two sons, Zac and Justin, he gave them guns and took them to the woods as well. Then one day when the boys were home alone, he got a call from Zac that Justin had been shot. What follows is an intimate and gripping memoir about the shooting’s aftermath. The story moves between the perspectives of Roger and Zac as they take us through their journey of betrayal, redemption, and ultimately confrontation with a company that had kept its corruption a secret for decades.

Close your eyes and get ready to see the world in a new and more positive way. As a child in Toronto, Molly Burke was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa and became completely sightless as a teenager. Motivational Memoir with Humor and Heart
Revisado: 08-20-19
I am an avid reader, but I only write full reviews on about 5% of the content I consume. This short memoir deserves a review. Molly Burke’s life is much more than “just” a story; it is a guide to grabbing life by the horns in spite of challenges.
As a brain tumor survivor, I found many of her experiences relatable. But I believe anyone can benefit from her memoir, even if they don’t have a disability, or don’t experience mental health struggles like depression and anxiety. Remembering that we all want to be “seen” is a life changing message, when taken to heart. I applaud this beautiful, vivacious young woman for looking at the world with eyes that see much more than skin deep. Well done!

Committed to Win
Revisado: 07-20-19
Mark Eaton's journey from mechanic to NBA All-Star teaches far more than the four commitments. His stories teach perseverance, dedication, kindness, and how to be an All-Star individual. Not many people will have the advantage of being 7'4", but we can all learn to commit ourselves to what we want. Mark really proved his worth ethic during his years at Cypress, working 19 hour days. Wow.
I felt like a privileged insider, listening to the life stories of this real-life giant. A worthwhile three hours of time!
