"Sometimes I want to spend hours talking with my best friends about boys and fashion and school and life. I want to go to the gym; I want my hair to look nice; I want to be allowed to wear jeans. I want to be a normal young woman living in America, sometimes. But I want other things more. All the time. I want to be spiritually and emotionally filled every day. I want to be loved and cuddled by a hundred children and never go a day without laughing.

Even as the sound of modern worship has grown louder, the heartbeat of true worship has grown faint. This is a call for those whose hearts burn to see it revived - who burn with reformation’s fire. Who long to see the purity of worship restored and the Lord’s house of prayer once again reflect the fullness of his glory and the wonders of his heart.

Whew!!!!
Revisado: 05-26-23
I don’t even remember buying this audiobook. I’m a retreat this week and was looking for something to listen to while I spend my time away with the Lord and saw this. Honestly I didn’t want to listen to it. It felt too intense and as a worship pastor I’m surrounded by intensity! Lol
But listen, resist the temptation to pass this one over. It is a must read. It is a must read, but also a difficult read because few people will be able to get through this entire text without beating his or her breast in conviction at least once. But read it anyway. God chastens those He loves, and I believe that the Father has used Jeremy to chasten but also to encourage. And after finishing this book I am more encouraged than I have been in a long while!

If you are longing to experience God more than the shame or hurts of your past, the pressures of your present, or the fear of your future, Brave Surrender offers a soul-healing path forward. As Kim learned in her own life, the first step - and the bravest step - is letting go. Once we let go of anything that gets between us and God, we are freed to take hold of the life that truly matters.

So glad I found this
Revisado: 05-24-23
I’m on a solo retreat and could not find an audiobook that felt right. I literally said to myself that I wanted a book by a woman who walked in great intimacy with Jesus and is full of joy. Kim Walker-Smith’s name came to mind and I was surprised to see this book show up when I put her name in! I’m a worship leader too so double bonus. 🙌🏾 I was SHOCKED to find out that she dreaded that viral video, This made me realize that I also overthink and try to cover up what God wants to expose for His glory. I’m so grateful to have discovered this book!

Glad it was short
Revisado: 05-22-23
The book started off interesting but started to freefall into being terrible about midway through. How could such a smart lawyer be so clueless?? How could a competent attorney be so gullible and emotional? The story was very predictable for me and the characters not very deep. I’m just glad it wasn’t that long so as to not spend more hours reading something I disliked so much.

As you journey through this book, you will get a close look at a heart that experienced love but was also devastated by an encounter with loss. This heart experienced such disappointment that eventually found it bound up by fear. Although committed to living a life of purpose in God, you can still find yourself veering off course.

Resetting bones in order to heal
Revisado: 04-19-23
This book feels like the resetting of a broken bone. It challenges and even hurts, but it brings incredible healing and wholeness. Shanna is amazingly transparent and honest, giving you freedom to be honest with yourself and with God. I love that she takes off the “author hat” at the end of each chapter to process what was shared as with a friend. I recommend it fully, but know that it will expose areas that God wants to heal. Trust the process.

Historia
Thomas Covenant is a leper, a bitter and solitary pariah who is mystically transported to another Earth where time moves differently than ours, one in which magic takes many forms. The Land is threatened by many evils, the most immediate of which is a maddened Cavewight whose subterranean excavations have unearthed the ancient and puissant Staff of Law. More dangerous to the free people of the Land is the Gray Slayer, Lord Foul, the Despiser, who intends to destroy the actual foundations of the Earth that he might wage war against the universe’s creator.

NOPE
Revisado: 02-23-23
A really good friend recommended this. The narration was the first to get over. He’s terrible and makes the annoying protagonist even more so, and all of the other characters lackluster. Then came increasingly frequent comments about the physique of each woman that came into the story. How holding a pot accentuating this one’s breasts and all that crap. The end for me was the terribly written rape of the teenage girl. Now I hate the protagonist and wonder where the story will end up. So I read several reviews and several blogs. Basically if you like ambiguous characters and morality this may work for you. But it’s not a redemptive read according to those who have read it so I’m moving on. Wish I would’ve read the reviews before wasting my credit.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

So much profanity!
Revisado: 04-18-22
I listen to audiobooks on my Echo Plus while making dinner for my family or cleaning. The profanity was so frequent I had to move to AirPods which makes it hard to hear everything going on on my house. If it hadn’t been a short story I wouldn’t have finished it. Now that I have finished it I don’t regret it. The story and the writing was really great. Such an interesting idea! But I won’t get another book from this author, unfortunately.

A Musician’s Review
Revisado: 12-20-21
I love this book for so many reasons, but I’ll just speak about the musical aspect. Never have I read a book that captures the intimacy between a person and his/her music and instrument so well - except in “In This House of Brede.” I’m not one to repeat books, but I’ve read both books twice and will likely do so again. Patrick Rothfuss is a satisfying writer with characters you will miss long after the read is over.

Trying too hard
Revisado: 07-16-21
Storyline and magic were decent. Writing was terrible. Metaphors seemed like they were thrown in as filler and they were painfully bad. I finished the book and was tempted to do the sequel but can’t bring myself to do it. I did really appreciate the fact that the writing was clean and morally redemptive.
