Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Science Fiction that actually features SCIENCE!
Revisado: 04-17-25
Loved everything about this one. Characters, story, science. It was supremely addictive. A casual listen took over my life until I finished it.

Dalinar Kholin challenged the evil god Odium to a contest of champions with the future of Roshar on the line. The Knights Radiant have only ten days to prepare—and the sudden ascension of the crafty and ruthless Taravangian to take Odium’s place has thrown everything into disarray. Desperate fighting continues simultaneously worldwide—Adolin in Azir, Sigzil and Venli at the Shattered Plains, and Jasnah in Thaylenah. The former assassin, Szeth, must cleanse his homeland of Shinovar from the dark influence of the Unmade.

First Sanderson book I don't like
Revisado: 04-15-25
Maybe it gets better. I've given up on it twice, first time around 30% in, now around 50% in. I don't know if I will finish it or not.
I have read/listened to almost the entire Cosmere, and some of his YA books. This one is a dud for me. Huge fan up until now. Maybe the next book(s) will be a return to form.

Historia
Ancient artificial intelligences called Angels are the shadowy guardians of civilization. Over the long ages, humanity has become extinct and reseeded many times. This is the sixth epoch. Little is known about the history of the first five. Responding to a 20,000-year-old radio beacon, an expedition is sent an impossible distance across the galaxy in the hope of recovering knowledge of the origins of the human race. An artifact is discovered in orbit around a dying star. What the crew of the Erebus discovers could mean the end of everything.

How does humanity survive galactic extinction?
Revisado: 10-14-20
First, I have to admit, I have recently become a fan of Stilwell's work. I was given his An Ocean of Stars omnibus as a gift, then followed it by reading The Galactic Time Trap, both of which I highly recommend. On to the audiobook in question.
The concepts introduced in this book take a fresh look at galaxy-spanning human civilization. Where we have often seen many stories cover the need to colonize other worlds to avoid extinction on Earth, Stilwell takes this concept to a much larger scope. Humanity has epochs lasting perhaps hundreds of thousands of years before events outside of their control threaten to wipe them out entirely. So what is an advanced, space-faring species to do in the face of certain death? How do you place contingency plans to ensure the survival of the human race? What knowledge is lost between these epochs? The Silent Stars answers many of these questions, raises some new ones, and leaves you begging for more stories in the captivating universe Stilwell created.
