I like Gena Showalter's adult books very much. This, however, has too much teenage angst for me. Everything causes angst - boyfriend, boy friends, girl friends, shapeshifters, Dad, voices in one's head, new school, bullies, memories being wiped clean -- the usual high school stuff.

Perfect balance

As a bit of a foodie and a bit of a scientist, this book was at a perfect level for me. There was enough techie talk without being boring and enough practical information to be useful with a good dash of humor throughout. I liked the variety of topics. I enjoyed this book very much and will view my cooking with a more informed eye - or perhaps I should say taste my cooking with a more informed tongue.

I love Travis McGee!

And I love John D. MacDonald for writing this series. I was excited when this series was introduced on Audible. MacDonald paints the best words pictures of his characters. You know not only what the character looks like but the description goes deeper - under the skin and into the psyche. If you like Michael Connely, Lee Child or John Sanford then you must read John D. McDonald. For me, he is the start of this genre and sets the bar very high.

exceedingly slow narration

The speaker was so slow that I could not listen to it at all after 10 minutes. I tried to increase the speed but it didn't help. I've listened to many audiobooks and this is the first I had to stop for slow narration. I very seldom give this low of a rating.
