Running as a spiritual exercise
Revisado: 09-13-23
Good advice on where to focus your mind when running.
During the course of listening to a devotional before each run, my father passed away. The following day the devotional centered on running with grief.

Historia
The day Lacey Sturm planned to kill herself was the day her grandmother forced her to go to church, a place Lacey thought was filled with hypocrites, fakers, and simpletons. The screaming match she had with her grandmother was the reason she went to church. What she found there was the reason she is alive today. With raw vulnerability, this hard-rock princess tells her own story of physical abuse, drug use, suicide attempts, and her ultimate salvation.

Historia
The first time single father Spence Kimball set eyes on Natasha Stanislaski, he was floored by her exotic beauty. But the former ballet dancer turned toy shop owner had a fiery temperament that kept men safely at bay. Sensing a hidden wound, Spence and his little girl joined forces to find a way into her closely guarded heart. For Spence realized he'd do anything to tame Natasha's fears...and show her how to love.

Just the Worst
Revisado: 07-24-19
The narration for this book was so over the top that it was difficult to listen to. Living in a community that has a heavy Ukrainian presence, the mistakes in accents were glaringly obvious. The main character had moved to the US when she was below the age of ten. Having known people who have lived in the US from that age on, they generally have a very mild accent. The brother of the main character, I believe, came to the US below the age of five. He should have had no accent. Instead that character sounded like he had just learned English. The inaccuracies were so distracting, it was impossible to like any of the characters.
I'm not sure if the story was any good; I couldn't help but laugh at the disastrous narration.

Historia
It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

Viral apocalypse and magic

Unfortunately I had read this story before only then it was called The Stand by Stephen King. I was also mildly offended by the ‘religious’ terrorists. Sci-fi in general seems to have decided that people of faith don’t read sci-fi or fantasy. They won’t be wrong if they continue to portray Christians as death dealing fanatics. The last three sci-fi books I’ve read have adopted that storyline.

Historia
Tony Webster and his clique first met Adrian Finn at school. Sex-hungry and book-hungry, they would navigate the girl-less sixth form together, trading in affectations, in-jokes, rumor, and wit. Maybe Adrian was a little more serious than the others, certainly more intelligent, but they all swore to stay friends for life. Now Tony is retired. He’s had a career and a single marriage, a calm divorce. He’s certainly never tried to hurt anybody. Memory, though, is imperfect. It can always throw up surprises, as a lawyer’s letter is about to prove.

Endless Self-Serving Philosophizing
Revisado: 09-12-14
What was most disappointing about Julian Barnes’s story?
The story dragged on and on with the author analyzing the minutiae of his life and what it meant. By the time of the 'big reveal' I was hoping they would all jump off into the river and end everyone's misery.
