Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Historia
Although many have heard of the Crusades and some of the more famous orders like the Templars, few know about the Livonian Crusade or the Livonian Brothers of the Sword. This organization was one of many Catholic military orders that sprung up during the Middle Ages in response to the papacy’s call for holy war, and the Livonian Crusade is the term used to group together dozens of military actions undertaken by German knights in Eastern Europe. The order would go on to become one of the most influential of religious knighthoods by incorporating into the Teutonic Knights.

A Nice Short Story
Revisado: 09-05-23
While rather brief, it was a nice summary and essay regarding the Teutonic Order and the lesser noted Livonian Brothers.
The voice was calm and sophisticated, not just because it was a British one!

Historia
The Teutonic Knights are said to be the toughest warriors the Catholic church ever had during the crusades. Discover how this Catholic order has influenced our history and even present times. The Teutonic Knights may receive less attention than the other two Catholic orders of Crusaders - the Hospitallers and the Knights Templar - but their history is just as storied and complex as that of their monastic peers.

Solid Summary

This was rather brief, but a good summary for getting into the Teutonic Order. The narration is deep, but funny at times, with a lot of inflections!

Solid Summary

The voice is perfect and soothing. A good voice for history!
While the book only goes into detail occasionally, I would say it is a nice book for those just getting into German history or want a better overview of it’s roughly last 2,000 years of history.

Historia
The Teutonic Knights were powerful and ferocious advocates of holy war. Their history is suffused with crusading, campaigning, and struggle. Feared by their enemies but respected by medieval Christendom, the knights and their Order maintained a firm hold over the Baltic and Northern Germany and established a formidable regime that flourished across Central Europe for 300 years. William Urban's narrative charts the rise and fall of the Order and, in an accessible and engaging style, throws light on a band of knights whose deeds and motives have long been misunderstood.

Solid Medieval Work
Revisado: 07-20-23
Ranging from the easy to listen voice to the sophisticated, yet simplified matter of the German Order, this audio book is a solid representation of this medieval order. The only critic is that the names of the people may be disorienting, so listening carefully and looking up this Polish and Baltic leaders would be helpful.
