Historia
Miles Morales is just your average teenager. Dinner every Sunday with his parents, chilling out playing old-school video games with his best friend, Ganke, crushing on brainy, beautiful poet Alicia. He's even got a scholarship spot at the prestigious Brooklyn Visions Academy. Oh yeah, and he's Spider Man. But lately Miles' Spidey-sense has been on the fritz. When a misunderstanding leads to his suspension from school, Miles begins to question his abilities.

Not What You Expect
Revisado: 12-14-18
I absolutely loved this book. Honestly, I thought it was going to be “another” super hero saves the world book. Not that there’s anything wrong with that because I’m a huge fan of this genre. However, the premise behind this book goes so much deeper. The message resonates deeply in our society around the perceptions we have regarding different backgrounds and the external and internal fight one undergoes dealing with these perceptions. Anyway, great book a definite read especially for those individuals from ethnic backgrounds that want to see themselves in literature.

But they are also four kids chosen for an elite middle school track team - a team that could qualify them for the Junior Olympics if they can get their acts together. They all have a lot to lose, but they also have a lot to prove, not only to each other, but to themselves.

This is absolutely a wonderful story about a young man dealt a difficult life but staying optimistic in the midst of it all. The narration is what truly draws you into the story. A fabulous book for reluctant boy readers. Great story with an even better message.

A nice glimpse into women's fight to vote
Revisado: 06-30-16
I read this book because it is one of the required text for the 4th grade literacy unit. I enjoy historical fiction but, for some reason, I did not look forward to reading this book. My feeling quickly fleeted. This is a good read. The author did a wonderful job conveying the emotion around in the fight against the "antis" and "Suffs" as the Susan B. Anthony amendment tries to pass. I appreciated that this was not the only historical focus. There was discussion of segregation and the treatment of blacks during this time as well as men's beliefs about women during this time. The descriptive language is not very rich but there are multiple moments in the text where the author uses words that make you pause and check your own understanding. This is a great book to introduce children to the fight people underwent to get women the right to vote.
