Historia
University of Berkshire Hathaway is a remarkable retelling of the lessons, wisdom, and investment strategies handed down personally from Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger to shareholders during 30 years of their closed-door annual meetings. From this front row seat, you'll see one of the greatest wealth-building records in history unfold, year by year. If you're looking for dusty old investment theory, there are hundreds of other books waiting to cure you of insomnia. However, if you're looking for an investing book that's as personal as it is revelatory, look no further.

No lessons, just notes from meetings
Revisado: 11-11-24
I purchased this book thinking it would provide lessons from Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger. Instead, this book only provided a summary of Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholder meetings from 1985-2017 based on the author's notes. There no synthesis or analysis. I did find the history of Buffet's involvement with Berkshire Hathaway interesting, but I could have gotten that information in a 10-minute internet article, instead of of 12+ hour audio book.

Historia
As riveting as a World War II thriller, The Forger's Spell is the true story of Johannes Vermeer and the small-time Dutch painter who dared to impersonate him centuries later. For seven years a no-account painter named Han van Meegeren managed to pass off his paintings as those of one of the most beloved and admired artists who ever lived. As Edward Dolnick reveals, his true genius lay in psychological manipulation, and he came within inches of fooling the world. Instead, he landed in an Amsterdam court on trial for his life.

Historia
On April 3, 1996, a team of FBI agents closed in on an isolated cabin in remote Montana, marking the end of the longest and most expensive investigation in FBI history. The cabin's lone inhabitant was a former mathematics prodigy and professor who had abandoned society decades earlier. Few people knew his name, Theodore Kaczynski, but everyone knew the mayhem and death associated with his nickname: the Unabomber.

Good story, but poor narration
Revisado: 09-11-23
This was a good story but as have others have commented, the narration makes it very difficult to listen to. I did find that speeding the play to 1.5x made it bearable (and the narrator no longer sounded under the influence.)

Twisty and fun! I couldn't stop listening.
Revisado: 07-18-23
I had just finished a couple of non-fiction titles and needed a mental escape. This was the perfect fiction listening choice. I was captivated from the start--continually guessing as the plot twisted and new perspectives revealed. I really enjoyed the multiple narrators. I will look for more by this author.

Historia
The United States federal government spent over $10 billion on medical protective wear and emergency supplies, yet as COVID-19 swept the nation, life-saving equipment such as masks, gloves, and ventilators was nearly impossible to find. In this brilliant nonfiction thriller, called “revelatory” by The Washington Post, award-winning investigative reporter J. David McSwane takes us behind the scenes to reveal how traders, contractors, and healthcare companies used one of the darkest moments in American history to fill their pockets.

Lots of info from this investigative reporter. Unfortunately doesn’t speak well to the US as a nation dealing with a pandemic. Hopefully we can learn from our many mistakes to do better when we face the next crisis.

Revisado: 05-21-19
I was very excited about this free download. Unfortunately, I couldn't get beyond the terrible, distracting music in the first session. If I had paid anything for it, I would have returned it. I have a couple more of these from the Aaptiv. Not sure I will even try them. Quite a disappointment.

Historia
After standing at Donald Trump’s side on Election Night, Cliff Sims joined him in the West Wing as special assistant to the president and director of White House message strategy. He soon found himself pulled into the president’s inner circle as a confidante, an errand boy, an advisor, a punching bag, and a friend. This is the story of what it was really like in the West Wing as a member of the president’s team. It's a story of power and palace intrigue, backstabbing and bold victories, as well as painful moral compromises, occasionally with yourself.

I listened to the whole book, so you don't have to
Revisado: 02-11-19
I read a number of negative reviews before I purchased this book. Most folks hadn't been able to get through the whole book. I thought it was unfair to pan the book without reading the whole thing and thought surely, there'd be some thing redeeming in it so I listened to the end. I found nothing--just a waste of an Audible credit and 10+ hours of my life. Cliff Sims is every bit the viper of the book's title. Even worse, I learned at the end of the book that he wrote it to build his new consulting business (and likely become the ultimate DC swamp dweller!) Despite what he went through, Sims remains a Trump devotee, never recognizing or admitting that the White House which he describes as the most toxic place he's ever worked is that way it because that's the environment Donald Trump has created. If you do decide to listen to this book, do so on at least 1.25x speed. It'll get you through it faster and the strange cadence the narrator uses for Trump quotes won't be so painful.

Historia
What happens when the President of the United States governs one Tweet at a time? When the elected leader of the free world may not have a firm grasp on the names of government agencies, much less an understanding of their intricate inner-workings? In the days following the 2016 inauguration, government personnel searched for answers that didn’t exist, while White House staff scoured halls for employees who would never be appointed.

About 1/2 Duplicates "A Coming Storm"
Revisado: 10-08-18
I'm a big Michael Lewis fan, so I didn't read the reviews. I should have, as other reviewers have made clear that "The Fifth Risk" duplicates much of the free Audible title, "A Coming Storm". Good material and excellent narration, but those who have already listened to "A Coming Storm" will be disappointed at the repeat of material. I'm not sure why Audible did this, as I feel like I paid a full credit for part of a book. However, if you haven't read "A Coming Storm", I recommend this audio book.

This was such a fun novel by Ms. Taylor and the performance by Ms Romm was exceptional. I love history, I love the absurd, and putting them together made this book perfect for me.
