Historia
Hundreds of thousands of devotees will cheer the return of Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. The Navajo policemen, are brought together by the death of a man on Ship Rock, almost 1700 feet above the desert floor. The fallen man had sprawled on the ledge under the peak of Ship Rock mountain for eleven years - visited only by the ravens who had picked his bones bare and scattered his rock-climbing gear. Through the memory of those who had known him, emerges an understanding of the fallen man, who had been given everything and found it was not enough.

Great story; horrible narrator
Revisado: 03-13-25
This narrator is not the right one for this story. I have the original Recorded Books version read by George Guidell. It is so much better. I couldn’t finish three chapters of this new version. The story itself is very good.

The story
Revisado: 09-25-24
In my opinion the narrator does not do a good job with the characters’ voices. George and David are fairly good, but her voicing of Queen Meg is frankly poor (IMHO).

A well-written story! Fun and engaging.
Revisado: 05-10-24
I like the fact that Fry is British, therefore he has the accurate speech of the trained actor he is. But I felt that how he voiced Ron Weasley was off. Ron sounded like an adult with the kind of timbre found in an older man, notj a 12 year old boy.

Good story, poor narrator
Revisado: 01-31-24
Unlike other narrators of Brother Cadfael stories, this narrator made no effort to create different voices for the characters, it was annoying and didn’t do justice to the story.

This is a classic Clancy thriller
Revisado: 10-11-22
I enjoyed the story which in is set a couple of years after the events con The Sum Of All Fears. I know many reviews panned the narrator. However, like a few other reviewers, I think the issues are the result of poor sound engineering. Whoever did it slowed MacDonald’s narration too much resulting in a monotone effect. As another reviewer recommended I listened to the book narration 1.5 rather then the usual normal speed of 1 and the result was effective and non-monotone. My only complaint was the narrator should have paused longer when changing scenes.

Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Started a bit slow, but I really enjoyed it
Revisado: 09-01-22
As always, R.C. Bray does an excellent narration. The story is a bit slow at first but when it moves from Casimir’s back story, it speeds up. Other listeners have that Casimir sounds too much like Joe Bishop in Alanson’s Ex-Force books, but I think it is Bray’s actual voice, and no hints of a Maine accent as Hoe has. I like the humor. And while the dog provides much of that humor, he be comes a major character. And imagine having to reposing modern technology to someone from the Fourth Century!

Excellent story; mediocre narrator
Revisado: 09-01-20
I enjoyed the story when I read it and await the follow up coming in 2021. But I did not like the narrator. He voice is pleasant, but as another reviewer noted, she was all over the place with the various accents. For example, Callum has always had a deeper voice with an accent that reflected his upper class background. Her rendition of Lily and Ieuan didn’t have the “lilt” that the prior narrator used. They didn’t sound Welsh. I hope that Laurel returns for future books in this series.

I bought the audiobook based on a newspaper review. I am so glad I did. It is so good: funny, thoughtful, entertaining. It is a book that you can read and finish with a smile on your face and in your heart. The narrator is perfect.
