narrators did a fantastic job!
Revisado: 04-28-25
I enjoyed this viciously sweet romance very much. The voice actors REALLY did a great job! Instead of one narrator per chapter, the male and female narrators played off of each other and did it perfectly!
To those of us who enjoy epic saga romantasy series, this book is a break from the intense drama of life or death every other paragraph. The author did a great job of keeping me interested in the story without being overloaded with mysteries, battles, world-focused or magic focused. The world around the two main characters is more of a setting rather than the focus. The focus remains on the relationship building. For those of you who don't care for real spice scenes - you may want to find a different book- but as a lover of the spicy it was perfect for me - 3.5-4 out of 5 for spice level!
I literally read through the night even though I just wanted to read a chapter. A quick read of a morally grey main make character and a sweet-but-strong female main character. I loved getting to know them both.

Turning 18 and getting accepted into college brings me everything I need to escape from the nightmares of my past but I never could have imagined my nightmares - and dreams - were just beginning. Finding myself thrown into a world of fantasy, politics, friendships, and rules that are nearly impossible to understand, I feel like I'm drowning in a world of shifters I never knew existed. As I struggle to find my place and prevent my nightmares from tearing me apart, I find myself surrounded by an unusual group of sexy men.

FMC doesn't make sense
Revisado: 03-31-25
I wanted to root for the FMC, given her lifetime of abuse, but her whole attitude and treatment of others around her made me so irritated I just wanted her to shut up most of the time.
Being a survivor of sexual assault, I get that she prefers to avoid touch, but she's also just mean to EVERYONE around her. Her character doesn't make sense either. Survivors of violence typically are able the empathize and relate to others pretty easily. They (we) also tend to be more reserved around others, but the FMC is rude, snotty, brash and mean. I mean, come on, she kicked at the guys the HELPED her shift because it hurt? Even after it was clear that the bracelet she wore impeded her ability to shift, she still didn't apologize?!
Contrary to what other people have commented about the narrators, I like the voice actors. The voice actors also narrated the Crave series, which I really enjoyed, and I've become used to the way they perform. I've listened to hundreds of audible books and these narrators are much better than over half the voice actors I've listened to.
I'll finish this book, but I don't see myself purchasing the rest of the series. I'm growing tired of listening to teenagers and their angst. I'll move on to FMC's that are older.

Historia
I’ve been told I’m beautiful to look at, but I’m a monster all the same. Barely contained. Terrifying now that the thirst is upon me. I’m a beast king, and that comes with its pros and cons. Big con: I have to take a bride. It’s built into my DNA. We all reach a point where the drive kicks in. I thought I still had time. I was wrong. I need to find her. The one. A vampiress whose blood will quench me. The hunt is on. If I don’t find her soon, I’ll be put down like a rabid dog, leaving my throne to my greatest enemy: my rival by blood. And that can’t happen.

The whole story felt rushed.
Revisado: 03-21-25
SPOILERS at the end.
The concept and plot of this story was interesting. I enjoyed the FMC and could relate with her loving cats and crafts over money and prestige. I enjoyed the MMC and his honesty. I enjoyed the magical world. The spice was great!
But, the quick run through the story and lack of depth with characters was disappointing. Like the fact that the FMC was lied to her entire life about WHO she was... She's 29 for crying out loud! The fact that her own mother was so cruel to her and then, in the end, all is forgiven and the main characters brother goes from being totally selfish and controlling to this reasonable and understanding man? The end isn't just rushed, but REALLY rushed. The FMC finds out she has a sister who tries to save the FMC, but then we never hear anything about trying to connect with each other after that? I would encourage the author to slow the whole story down a little bit to add depth to all the characters that are a little more logical or authentic.
The female narrator did a pretty good job, but the male narrator was monotone and had a difficult time portraying other characters (especially female characters). In retrospect, I would have preferred to just read the book instead of paying for the audio.

Historia
When I left my sheltered haven, I never thought I’d end up at a gothic cathedral, training with immortals of all kinds to prepare for an epically dangerous journey. We need to go to hell and find the most powerful slayer of all time, who just happens to be the demonic brother of the half-god, half-incubus angel I’m dating. Well, I’m not sure if sharing searingly hot nights where he feeds on my pleasure and helps bring my abyssal powers to the surface counts as dating, exactly. But with the fate of the world in my hands, I don’t have much time to worry about it.

I would read the first book again, just to get to this one.
Revisado: 03-20-25
The first book in this series was a bit frustrating to me. The FMC acted like a pre-teen instead of a woman in her early twenties who spent years being abused and suppressed. Growing up with minimal exposure to other cultures and beliefs it made sense. but she was exposed to novels and stories from the human world, which taught her how disfunctional her packs were. Thankfully, this book (book 2 in the series) the FMC acted more her age in attitude and decisions. Her confidence showed up more and she reacted with more understanding and compassion during her journey. She also learned to appreciate the support from people around her more. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series-although it was EXTREMELY difficult to find a way to purchase the ebooks. I would've loved access to the remainder of the series on audible, but it looks like they haven't been produced yet.
The narrator was awesome and did a wonderful job portraying other characters! I always knew which character was speaking by the accent or cadence of the narrators voice.
For those of us into some good spice in our romantasy adventures, I would give it 3 out of 5. Description of those scenes were thorough, but in comparison to ACOTAR or Blood and Ash series it was much more tame and less frequent. If you're looking for a book with action, mystery, destiny/prophecy, dark heroes, magic and romance give the Morningstar series a chance!

Meet Ophelia Hart. Lover of classic literature and unicorns. An orphan with nobody in her corner—no family, no friends. But it’s her loneliness that fuels her life’s ambition to become a social worker and help the forgotten children just like her. For a foster kid with only slightly above-average grades, it feels like a pipe dream. Except it seems that someone is looking out for Ophelia after all. When an unexpected opportunity to attend Montridge University arises, she thinks her life is finally taking a turn for the better.

No clear plot, absurd characters
Revisado: 03-05-25
I'm honestly angry with myself for wasting my time trying and failing to figure out what the true structure is to this book. I love my spice and my romantasy series, but this book seemed like it was written by AI algorithm for this genre. The inconsistencies of the characters, the plot, everything, was just ridiculous.
I do not recommend wasting your time and money. This book doesn't have passionate spice or romantic kink. It's about a naive teenage girl who catches the attention of hundred year old frat boy vampires with narcissistic personalities because her blood smells powerful. Consent is non existent, there rampant verbal manipulation and emotional abuse towards the FMC that's horribly undeserved, and the s€x is completely superficial. If I could get a refund, I would.
Regarding the narrators- they did a great job with what they were given, but there's nothing to be done for the content they were given.
Skip this ridiculous book.

fascinating world
Revisado: 01-18-25
Jaymin Eve does a fantastic job in her creation of worlds. I usually love her solid character bonds, and overall, I enjoyed all of the supporting characters in this series. The biggest irritation for me is the FMC. She's a spoiled, arrogant girl who acts like she's never been told no- and never had to think of anyone else's feelings but her own. In a way, she's emotionally immature - like her emotional range stopped growing when she was 12. There's a great deal of narcissism in her attitude. It surprises me that she's aware enough of other people to admit she would give up a mate bond to save the world- it's not in her personality. Then there's her poor twin sister who displays compassion and kindness, which gets confused with submissiveness. Misha is just expected to seamlessly adapt to a world of supernaturals and suck it up when she experiences emotions that interfere with this new group she's thrown into. She's neglected by everyone while the FMC gets all the attention (which the FMC doesn't deserve imo). I'm hopeful that Jessa isn't the focus of the stories in the later books because I just want to thump her for most of the junk that comes out of her mouth. I almost wish that Misha-the twin sister-was given some bigger power than she has so far. I guess I'll see how it goes.
SPICE-theres more spice in this book than the previous book~about a 3.5-4 out of 5.
Great mystery and moderate action.

After a startling betrayal ends with both Sera and the dangerously seductive ruler of the Shadowlands she has fallen madly in love with being held captive by the false King of the Gods, there is only one thing that can free Nyktos and prevent the forces of the Shadowlands from invading Dalos and igniting a War of Primals. Convincing Kolis won’t be easy, though–not even with a lifetime of training.

Love this series, but this book could have been shorter.
Revisado: 10-25-24
I was disappointed for the first, 3/4 of this book. The FMC, Sera, acted like a teenager with ADHD and oppositional defiance disorder. For a character that was trained to be a quiet, submissive, subservient maiden for the first 17 years of her life, she didn't seem to even remotely act like it, even when her or other people's lives were on the line. It was irritating that she couldn't control the simplest things and it even got on my nerves that she couldn't keep her mouth shut when it would've served her, and then wouldn't communicate when that WOULD have served her. She knew from experience that none of Kolis's games ended well for anyone. Yet, she fell for the mind games and killed an innocent man, and was then surprised? It got to the point where I was basically skimming through pages because her internal dialogue, and then her verbal interaction with others were meaningless and didn't add to the overall story.
The end of the book was great, and I'm crossing my fingers that she will grow up a little and be a kind heroine, instead of a brat that just happened to have the important embers of life. I'm hoping the ending to this series will be as fulfilling as the first two books.
Last but not least, the narrator was amazing! Still my favorite narrator of audio books by far.

Better than the first book
Revisado: 09-09-24
Compared to the story in the first book of this series, this one was a sweet love story. It's also short, like a novella. I liked the male love interest in this world and find myself wishing Kat (FMC in previous book) had someone this honorable. I really hope the series continues with humane make wolves instead of the emotionally abusive alpha in the X clan.

my least favorite
Revisado: 07-31-24
I've read the entire series, and have enjoyed it immensely. But this book... I'm only a quarter of the way through and I'm wishing I could get a refund. The behavior of the main female character just doesn't match the story line in my opinion. It's not logical to stab a person who just saved your life, and then yell at him in a language you know he doesn't understand. The MC knows that he's violent, so why does she keep antagonizing him? He keeps saving her life, but she keeps attacking him like it's HIS fault she's there. It just doesn't keep me engaged when the main character keeps acting stupidly. I'll skim through it, but I'll be much more discerning with the next book in the series. I can't stay engaged when I dislike the main character.

Six years ago, I awoke in a cage with no knowledge of who I was or where I’d come from. Six years ago, I was spared the flesh markets and instead thrown in with a group of savages, where I learned it was fight or die. Now, eight Orders of Assassins are converging on the only home I’ve ever known. All in hopes of purchasing new blade slaves for their ranks. I’m for sale, yet all I want is a life far from death and ownership. Then I meet them, the Order of Scorpions. Their allure is a threat to the freedom I crave, but I won’t fall victim to their sting, no matter how tempting it might be.

outstanding book
Revisado: 07-16-24
This book was the best I've listened to in a long time. It has all of the elements I look for in the dark romanticy genre-a female main character that has been horribly wronged and comes out the other side strong, hidden powers, a mysterious history that kept me listening, and dark, raw and spicy love interest.
Fair warning-this is a multiple partner romance for those who don't enjoy polyamory or "reverse harem" as some descriptions like to say.
I loved this story and would be extremely grateful if Ivy Asher expanded on this world with additional books. There's so much material for more!
