Historia
In the 2,000 years that have elapsed since the time of Christ, Christians have been as much divided by their faith as united, as much at odds as in communion. And the contents of Christian confession have developed with astonishing energy. How can believers claim a faith that has been passed down through the ages while recognizing the real historical contingencies that have shaped both their doctrines and their divisions? In this carefully argued essay, David Bentley Hart critiques the concept of "tradition" that has become dominant in Christian thought as fundamentally incoherent.

Hope for Christianity
Revisado: 01-26-23
As some who has miraculously escaped the dark dungeon of traditionalism (of the Catholic and Orthodox variety) DBH is the breath of fresh air that I need. I am very grateful for his work, and this one especially.

Historia
In recent years, the theological—and, more specifically, Roman Catholic—question of the supernatural has made an astonishing return from seeming oblivion. David Bentley Hart's You Are Gods presents a series of meditations on the vexed theological question of the relation of nature and supernature. In its merely controversial aspect, the book is intended most directly as a rejection of a certain Thomistic construal of that relation, as well as an argument in favor of a model of nature and supernature at once more Eastern and patristic.

A Path for Hope in Faith
Revisado: 01-22-23
I should begin by making the obvious observation that David Bentley Hart’s writing style (and topics) are not for everyone, or perhaps even a minority of people. However, I do not mean this as a criticism, for the depth of insight required for proper explication of such theological inquiries is manifold. However, I did find reading to be more difficult than listening as far as absorption of his vocabulary. Needless to say this is the only book I have ever listened to at a consistent 0.9 speed level, though I am grateful that it has proved to be much more enjoyable.
The way that DBH speaks about God is proper to his name. I have become weary of all the theologians who are still embalmed within the tiresome Aristotelian-Thomist language. At the particular stage in intellectual development that I happen to be in, I have regarded his work with an immense joy for providing me with the kind of concepts that I need. He gives words that are able to supply the intuitions that I have been having. Overall, I am renewed with a hope for Christianity after coming to know his work.

Historia
After his great portrayal of a guilty man in Crime and Punishment, Dostoevsky set out in The Idiot to portray a man of pure innocence. The 26-year-old Prince Myshkin, following a stay of several years in a Swiss sanatorium, returns to Russia to collect an inheritance and “be among people”. Even before he reaches home, he meets the dark Rogozhin, a rich merchant’s son whose obsession with the beautiful Nastasya Filippovna eventually draws all three of them into a tragic denouement.

Great Narration
Revisado: 06-07-22
I will not comment on the story all that much, as it fits other Dostoyevsky novels, from which I very much enjoyed. What I loved most about this recording was the narrator. He, more than any other, captures the spirit of the characters in these novels, and I look forward to purchasing the other recordings done by Vintage Classics (I really hope they do do audio versions of the other Vintage books by Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy). The voice of Rogozhin was superbly played, but all of the character voices were excellent in that regard.

Sensible Adaptation
Revisado: 09-17-21
After hearing the endless stream of catastrophic claims over the destruction of the world due to climate change, this was a much needed reality check. Everyone should read this book, and realise that it is not all bad. The world is not going to end, and humanity is going to be much better off in the coming century than ever before.

Historia
The average Christian in America does not know what his own religion teaches, nor does he care. He may call himself “Christian”, but he lives his life exactly as he wishes, making no attempt to conform his conduct to the commands and tenets of his religion. Daily Wire writer Matt Walsh confronts his fellow Christians in this bold, clear-eyed book that serves as an urgent reminder of Matthew 7:13 - "For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it."

A Wakeup Call to all Complacent Christians
Revisado: 10-27-20
This book demonstrates how much America has fallen behind in the religious values that it was founded upon. It gives no excuse for those Christians who espouse worldly virtues while still claiming to hold the mantle of Jesus Christ. It is time to decide who you are, and what you want to be. Will you serve the world or God? You cannot choose both.

Essential for everyone
Revisado: 09-18-20
In a political climate which increasingly favors the hyperbolic zero sum contests among class differences, racial differences, employer to employee differences etc. this book is essential to sobering those thoughts. There were many times in this book where I actually broke out into laughter because some of these ideas are so basic, so rational, yet are so often looked over in favor of ideas that are flat out wrong. Thomas Sowell writes in such a way as to leave the reader, having ever considered such previous irrational thoughts, dumbfounded in ever holding those ideas to be true. If everyone had a basic understanding of what was in this book, the world would be a more prosperous and free. Tragically, this is not the case, and we may be doomed to repeat the same mistakes that humanity has kept making since the beginning, over and over again.
