Historia
Bryony Gordon was not a runner. A loafer, a dawdler, a drinker, a smoker, yes. A runner, no. Yet somehow, as she began to recover from the emotional roller coaster of laying her life bare in her mental health memoir Mad Girl, she started to realise that getting outside, moving her body and talking to others for whom life was also an occasional challenge might actually help her.

One of the best books I’ve read on this topic
Revisado: 10-25-24
I really liked how this author presented this information, both as serious and with a sense of humor. I have never found a book that has been so accurate at describing the abuse and the aftermath of this phenomenon while also leaving room for Hope and recovery. I really enjoyed this book, and I hope to see more from this author.

Historia
An instant New York Times best seller, Dan Lyons' "hysterical" (Recode) memoir, hailed by the Los Angeles Times as "the best book about Silicon Valley," takes listeners inside the maddening world of fad-chasing venture capitalists, sales bros, social climbers, and sociopaths at today's tech startups. For 25 years Dan Lyons was a magazine writer at the top of his profession - until one Friday morning when he received a phone call: Poof. His job no longer existed. "I think they just want to hire younger people," his boss at Newsweek told him.

Relatable and fun in a painful way
Revisado: 10-08-24
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was very relatable to what I’m currently experiencing in the workforce being over the age of 40 and working with millennials and people younger than that generation. In the tech field it is very much like what he was describing in this book. It was refreshing to get his perspective on an interesting company, and also at times very funny and awkward and painful. It was a great read, and I am happy that he got out of that bad culture and environment and will be reading more of his books soon. Definitely enjoyed it.

Most people want to avoid thinking about death, but Caitlin Doughty - a 20-something with a degree in medieval history and a flair for the macabre - took a job at a crematory, turning morbid curiosity into her life’s work. With an original voice that combines fearless curiosity and mordant wit, Caitlin tells an unusual coming-of-age story full of bizarre encounters, gallows humor, and vivid characters (both living and very dead).

I loved this thoughtful and fun book
Revisado: 09-07-24
I really enjoyed learning all about the trade, and I appreciated the stories and the humor that was brought to such a somber topic. The details that she added were the best part down to what the peoples family who were them, and the ritual that they brought with them, and just different than yards of how people handled death and how she handled her trade. Really enjoyable read I loved it.

Historia
Science is a force for good in the world—at least usually. But sometimes, when obsession gets the better of scientists, they twist a noble pursuit into something sinister. Under this spell, knowledge isn’t everything, it’s the only thing—no matter the cost. Bestselling author Sam Kean tells the true story of what happens when unfettered ambition pushes otherwise rational men and women to cross the line in the name of science, trampling ethical boundaries and often committing crimes in the process.

Historia
Why America's sons are underachieving, and what we can do about it. Something is happening to boys today. From kindergarten to college, American boys are, on average, less resilient and less ambitious than they were a mere 20 years ago. The gender gap in college attendance and graduation rates has widened dramatically. In Boys Adrift, Dr. Leonard Sax delves into the scientific literature and draws on more than 20 years of clinical experience to explain why boys and young men are failing in school and disengaged at home.

Historia
An affair: It can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, and so, too, the prohibition against it - in fact it has a tenacity that marriage can only envy. Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

Pearls of Wisdom
Revisado: 12-29-17
Would you consider the audio edition of The State of Affairs to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the various cases that she addresses. There are a variety of people and situations addressed and she has spend a nice amount of time on each of them.
Which scene was your favorite?
The lady with the landscaper boyfriend. It so clearly explained that what we were really looking for wasn't exactly what we pursue. The hot sex in the car and the newness vs. the building with the steady husband and family. I can relate.
