Great Narration and historical reference
Revisado: 02-28-22
This book piqued my interest and kept me anxiously awaiting the next historical empowering reference. Mrs. Elias was able to persevere despite the opposition a woman of her status elicited. She quietly gained her fortune and yet still remained a level of awareness of others who were less fortunate.

That's what 15-year-old Naomi learns after she escapes the brutal confines of life on an Alabama plantation. Striking out on her own, she leaves behind her beloved Momma and sister, Hazel, and takes refuge in a Georgia brothel run by a freewheeling, gun-toting Jewish madam named Cynthia.

Very intriguing
Revisado: 06-12-21
This book was so rich in history and information. I am so glad the author took the time to share "Harlan's life and legacy so thoroughly. I cried and laughed and googled...often. Most importantly...I learned. Thank you for the beautiful narration, especially. I felt as though the narrator really was there and her interest in this historical account, albeit part fiction, was just interesting to her as it was to me.
