Lord Neil has been cut off from his family, and with no where to turn he stumbles upon the humble home of Teresa Clapham and her mother, Until the sudden death of her husband, Teresa had been well-off but upon her husband's death she finds herself impoverished. In their impoverished state, Teresa and her mother have learned to work hard and provide for themselves. In exchange for his labor, Teresa and her mother allow Lord Neil to stay at their farm, and with the assistance of hard labor and someone believing in him, Lord Neil begins to reform.

This is such a lovely story of growth, redemption, and love. So glad that Sally Britton wrote such a wonderful story for Lord Neil. This book left me feeling warm and happy.

Sally is a great writer, and she writes characters with depth; I love everything that she writes. The narrator effortlessly changes voices with skill.

I have read Engaging Sir Isaac before, and was totally engaged by the audio rendition done by Marian Hussey. I think I liked it the second time around better. I especially loved her voice of Lady Olivia — so catlike!

I loved this sweet story of Millie Wedgewood, forced by her family to try to restore their good name, and become accepted by the Ton again. Sir Isaac is fresh home from the war and missing an arm. He is slow to trust and love. This story is a sweet story of the coming together of Millie and Sir Isaac, and how Sir Isaac forgave Millie and then helped her. I thought it especially clever how he thwarted Lady Olivia.

Kate, Duchess of Lexborough, married young, and her husband promptly left for a decade on an archaeological dig. Soon after her husband Alex’s father died, Kate takes up the reigns of running the household and of running the estate. After ten years, Alex her husband, Duke of Lexborough suddenly reappears and comes home to a wife, sister, and brother that he really doesn’t know. He certainly isn’t aware that his wife has been running the show, and she is the toast of the Ton while he has been gone. Because of his absence for so many years, Alex is clueless, he has been gone and now tries to take on his role of Duke, with a lot to learn – as in which Duchess was really in charge while he was gone, his mother or his wife.

In this book Kate is the shining star. I absolutely loved how Kate was so loyal to Alex’s family; she always did what was she thought was right and supported them. I could really relate to Kate’s character, as so many times we just try to do our best for those we love, even if those around us do not appreciate us – did someone say Helena? Her relationship with Alex’s brother Arthur was very sweet. Eugenia was truly terrible, but I wonder if Elizabeth will bring her back and redeem her in her new Putney Brothers series?

Elizabeth Bramwell is an amazing storyteller. I would love to live in the supportive world of characters that Elizabeth Bramwell has created in this Regency Romp series. Her dialogue always sparkles. I especially loved the scenes where Kate replaced the candles with pig tallow candles and the shooting competition.

I admit that at one point toward the end, I cried because of the triumph of Kate. I felt a real appreciation for where she came from and who she became --- against great odds. I give this a five star rating. I have read the book, I also listened to the audiobook. Julia Eve is a talented voice, and I loved her voice when Arthur became bosky -- such fun!.

I always enjoy Sally Britton’s writing; she is a must read for me, but I have to say that Miss Devon’s Choice is one of my favorites!

Rebecca Devon’s father is forcing her to marry Christian Hundley, Lord Easton, even though they have never met before. Rebecca’s father and Christian’s grandfather believe this marriage will improve their social, political, and financial standing in society. Rebecca has been invited to a house party at her cousin’s home, and Rebecca feels like a house party would be the perfect opportunity to get to know her betrothed. Rebecca contrives to invite Lord Easton to the house party, and he accepts the invitation. When Rebecca and Elizabeth meet, neither are impressed with each other. If she must marry, Rebecca is determined to fall in love with her husband. Her older sisters are both happily married, and they are in love with their husbands; however Christian sees this marriage as nothing more than a business arrangement. Will Rebecca’s desire for a marriage of love be possible?

This is a delightful story of bringing two wounded hearts together. I am a huge fan of stories set at house parties, and this house party is being hosted by her lovable cousin Virginia, married to the Earl of Annesbury. At the house party, we meet both her sisters, Christine and Julia, and their very amiable husbands. I loved the loving relationships that she and her sisters share.

This really is a sweet romance, and it really melted my heart. I adored both Rebecca and Christian and kept on rooting for them through the twists and turns of their relationship.

I read both the book and listened to the audio book narrated by Kim Bretton. I was amazed at the variety of voices she was able to portray.

First of all, I have to say that I love Sally Britton’s writing, and I have read everything she has in print. This was a lovely story of Grace coming into her own. Grace switches places with her twin sister; Grace stays home and her sister Hope travels to the Caribbean to have the adventure of a lifetime. It is Grace that always worked behind the scenes planning parties and planning their charity work, but it was always Hope who always received the attention and credit. Hope also caught the eye of Jacob Barnes a lifetime friend of Hope and Grace, but Grace is the twin that is attracted to him. I have read the book and listened to the audio book. Marian Hussey did a wonderful job of narrating this delightful story; I loved listening to and reading this story.

Esther Saves Lord Inglewood and She Saves Herself

Revisado: 12-12-19

This book begins with a bang, literally. Walking with an acquaintance to Gunter’s, Esther Fox sees that the rope holding a statue of the Greek God Hermes is unraveling as it is being lifted, and it will most certainly fall on a gentleman, Silas Riley, Earl of Inglewood, oblivious to his surroundings, walking nearby. Swiftly she knocks Silas out of the way, and in the process falls on Silas saving him from serious injury or death, but seriously damaging her reputation. Esther’s act of saving Silas Riley, and another incident involving Silas and Esther, compromised Esther, and she is forced to marry Silas.

Esther is the younger sister to Isaac Fox. Growing up Isaac had a set of friends that he was intimately tied to, and the bonds to these childhood friends remain tight. Esther desired to be apart of this intimate circle, but never succeeded. As it turns out, Silas, is also a part of her brother’s intimate circle of friends. Esther spends a good part of her life feeling unwanted, and now as a married woman, she still feels unwanted and unaccepted with her husband and brother’s circle of friends. She also feels very frustrated that she is not allowed to make her own decisions.

She takes up painting, and a favorite part of the book for me, was when she would send the paintings to her husband while he was away.

This is a lovely story that Sally Britton has crafted, and I could really relate to Esther. I was the fifth of five children all born within the time span of six and one-half years. Many times, I felt left behind or if I was included, I often felt like a tag-along.

I enjoyed seeing the growth in Esther and Silas, and I was always rooting for them to succeed as a couple and come to a happy ending. Both Silas and Esther, though having miscommunication issues and struggles, were very likeable.

Marian Hussey is a very capable and talented voice, and she voices the variety of characters with distinction. She moved from female to male voices seamlessly. I read both the book and listened to the audiobook.

Perfect Winter Read

This lovely story is based on the story of Snow White and Rose Red, and I was captivated by the retelling of it. This review is based on the audiobook narrated by Jessica Elisa Boyd. The setting of this story is in the isolated woods of France where a grandmother and her grand daughters Scarlett and Blanche live in a small cottage with a dirt floor, and they are peacefully living out their lives. Born to the aristocracy, they have fled from England, and with no resources, they have learned to make jam, milk their goat, and make cheese. One winter evening, an English Captain, Captain Graysmark, knocks on their door and asks them if they can give him shelter. They let him in, and willingly give him of their meager resources. Why is the captain in the woods, and why are the English ladies living in the isolated woods in France? What are their secrets?

I love the cover of this book. There is snow covered trees depicted on the cover, and Scarlett with her red shawl she always wore. There was just a feeling of sweetness about this novel, the isolated cottage in winter, the love that the grand daughters and their grandmother shared with each other, and the kind captain who came to their rescue. The author Jessica Elisa Boyd’s voice was soothing, and calm, and peaceful and was the perfect voice to narrate this sweet story. This is the perfect winter read.

First of all, I gleefully admit that Elizabeth Bramwell is a must read for me. His Darling Belle is the third book in her delightful Regency Romp Series. The Snowley family is on the brink of financial disaster. Their recently deceased father has left their affairs in a terrible way, and son and heir, Christopher Snowley has worsened their situation by gambling, and accusing the Earl of Colborne of cheating of cards. Christopher’s sister, Bella, contrives to meet the Earl of Colborne to try to convince him to not doing a duel with her brother, and this lovely story ensues.

This is such a fun regency romance; it is a real page turner! This charming story includes TWO sweet romances, gambling, a duel, and an evil suitor. Bella Snowley takes it upon herself to save her family, even at the peril of her happiness. There is no cause for despair as two gentlemen of the ton take it upon themselves to protect and love the women of the Snowley family.

One of my favorite lines is “It’s not good ton to let rakes masquerading as gentleman try to kiss you, best to shoot them!” Well, there are so many other great lines.

I have read the book, and I was given a complimentary audiobook by the author. The thoughts and impressions of the book and the audio book are my own. Julia Eve is a delightful narrator and is successful in her portrayal of all the charming characters in this book.

Delightful Story -- Fun, Witty and Engaging!

James Douglas, the 4th Baron of Cottingham has been away in Montreal tending to family business. His friend Henrietta Cartwright has faithfully written to him all the time he was gone, but he never responded to her letters. Henrietta has been in love with James forever, and has taken to wearing white and acting bored and insipid to please James and the rest of the Ton. It is evident to her that since James never admits to reading her letters, and he didn’t respond back, that he is not in love with her. In fact, James tells her it is high time for her to take the business of finding a husband seriously.

Henrietta decides to change her dress and behavior to help her find a husband – she will not settle for anything less than love. Her cousin Emma Loughcroft has a plan to make her “all the crack” and have the menfolk of London bowing to her knees in worship; for this task Emma has engaged the help of the Duke of Devenish, or the Devilish Duke (swoon). Thus, the romp begins, and whose heart will be broken at the end?

I love Elizabeth Bramwell’s characters and plots; I have read all her books, and they are all delightful. Her dialogue is fun and witty, and she always entertains! She keeps it clean, and the focus is on character development, and she creates a cast of engaging characters that one grows to love, and you will grow to love Henrietta, James, and the Devilish Duke. Just a warning, you may not be happy with the choices Henrietta makes!

Julia Eve made this a pleasant read; her voice is very pleasant to listen to and her transitions to characters is smooth.

I was given an audio book from the author; my opinions and thoughts are my own.

Such a Fun Read -- Engaging Characters!

Abigail Merriweather, a rich widow, arrives on the London scene as a house guest at her dear friend Emma’s home. Abigail, never had a season in London before, and London will never be the same! Abigail’s husband Robert was not of genteel birth, and his fortune was made in trade – things the Ton cannot help but disparage.

The Ton needed no additional reason to snub her, but she gave them additional fuel when she ran her phaeton down St. James Street, blowing a kiss to the Bow Window, and don’t even bring up the balloon ascension!

Emma’s brother, George, Earl of Gloucester feels that Abby, is the “most appalling female that he had ever had the misfortune to meet!” Emma and her husband feel they have the solution to fixing Abigail’s reputation: have George dance attendance on Abigail for a few days, and hopefully the Ton can move on to the next scandal, forgetting about Abigail’s indiscretions. And thus, this fun romp begins!

From their first waltz together and kiss, their attraction was evident. I loved the interaction between the Abigail, the “hoyden,” and George, the “most starched up, unbending high stickler” -- they are a match made in literary heaven. Elizabeth’s writing is just delightful, and you will be glad of the misunderstandings that occur, so that the delightful story, with its engaging characters can play on.

I have both read the book and listened to the audio book, compliments of the author, narrated by the very talented Julia Eve, who has an amazing range of voices, and made listening to this book a real pleasure.

Just a huge plus for me, this was a clean Regency read, just some great kissing.

I purchased the book, but was given an audio code; these are my own opinions.
