moderately interesting
Revisado: 11-11-24
at the end, the author states his goal was to include all of the tropes that everybody loves, yet make the book fresh and interesting. he didn't okay job, but in my opinion it just wasn't new or fresh enough. I realize this is very subjective, so you may love it.

a little bit more going on in the last
Revisado: 10-24-24
I still think this story set is a little bit too much of merry-go-round, and not enough roller coaster. The high points in the plot aren't very high.
to offset that, there's a lot of character development and and background development that is interesting, at least to me.
spoiler alert, one downside that I wasn't a fan of was the transformation of the main character about 2/3 of the way through this book with not any significant explanation. this may be resolved by a better explanation later on, but that's another complaint about the series, broken up into short sections that don't really move that much, but do move the audible and author pocketbook. this is one of those series that is destined to be put into a pack and sold later for the same prices one book now in my opinion.

just a little too simple and lightweight
Revisado: 10-18-24
Yes, I know the first book was also, maybe I was just more in the mood for it then. I definitely see this at the complexity level of a young adult book.

generally a solid follow up
Revisado: 10-18-24
I can't really say anything stands out, it is just solid all around and a good sequel. maybe the story was a little mundane. it was interesting to see how their business ideas grew but there wasn't really any climax to the story.
also a little irritated how it looks like you're buying a much longer book than it is cuz there's a full hour or of extra material at the end. this is really quite a short book for the price.

Historia
In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

Written as a screenplay first, and it shows
Revisado: 08-31-24
Baffled by the number of positive reviews. While I won't say it is terrible, there was nothing that stood-out. Story was derivative and not particularly original in any aspect. 3 of the main characters were scientists, yet jumped to and acted on on completely unfounded conjecture like a high school drop out, and the dialog sounded exactly like it was written for an action film. Again, astonished at these ratings.

How is this so highly rated???!?
Revisado: 05-14-24
Never have I seen an audio book rated so highly that I so adamantly disagreed with (Saying a lot since I’ve been an Audible member for ~25 years)
The dialog ranges from barely tolerable to terrible. Characters speak their thoughts and intentions in plain, direct, story telling bareness, progressing the plot in a most unnatural and uninteresting way. Character development is minimal. The story is plain and basic. The villain is a cartoon villain.
I realized up front it was an “RPG” style story, and while I guess some of the high scores are from people who are interested in battle scenes where every weapon switch, mana point, and damage score is detailed. I’ve read a few of these styles, and with good characters and story, this can be fine. Here, I found myself skipping the battles to avoid detail after detail that progressed neither the plot nor the characters’ development.
I don't know how to score narrators when they are given material like this. They came across has very unbelievable but they did have to say what the author wrote.
Again, astonished at the average reviews.
