Historia
An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf. But the case is so explosive - and the dead man's enemies inside the LAPD are so numerous - that it falls to Harry to solve it. Now the streets are super heating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive. The question is, did any have the guts?

Narration and music are awful
Revisado: 06-01-23
I love the series, but a few chapters in, and I’m not sure I can make it to the end of this one. The narrator is so hard to listen to, and the background music is unnecessary and annoying. If the next book has the same narrator, I’m done with this series.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Read the book, skip the movie
Revisado: 08-02-22
I saw the movie, and honestly I was unimpressed. My wife convinced me to read the book, and I’m glad she did. The movie leaves so much out of the story, and it’s so much better in the book. Highly recommended reading.

Historia
Jacob Finch Bonner was once a promising young novelist with a respectably published first book. Today, he’s teaching in a third-rate MFA program and struggling to maintain what’s left of his self-respect; he hasn’t written—let alone published—anything decent in years. When Evan Parker, his most arrogant student, announces he doesn’t need Jake’s help because the plot of his book in progress is a sure thing, Jake is prepared to dismiss the boast as typical amateur narcissism. But then...he hears the plot.

Great story, but the ending was pretty obvious about halfway through the book. Worth a listen.

Historia
A severed arm, found buried in the White House Rose Garden. A lethal message with terrible consequences for the Presidency. And a hidden secret in one family's past that will have repercussions for the entire nation. There are stories no one knows. Hidden stories. I find those stories for a living. To most, it looks like Beecher White has an ordinary job. A young staffer with the National Archives in Washington, DC, he's responsible for safekeeping the government's most important documents...and, sometimes, its most closely held secrets.

Meltzer's most painful book to date
Revisado: 01-10-20
I have been a fan of Meltzer, but this book was a hard one to get through. The story dragged on and there is very little action. Way too much time is spent describing what it's like to have teeth fall out and the back-and-forth with the different time periods keeps the book from ever gaining any real momentum.
Honestly, I kept going just to see what happens, but for the majority of the time, I was not entertained. I actually found myself getting in my car and forgetting to start up audible because I just didn't care that much. Taking a break from Meltzer for awhile.

Sound principles that have endured the test of time. It would be nice, however, if some of the examples in the book could be updated to more recent business cases.

Historia
When Abraham Lincoln was assassinated and Vice-President Andrew Johnson became "the Accidental President", it was a dangerous time in America. Devastated by war and resorting to violence, many white Southerners hoped to restore a pre-Civil War society, if without slavery, and the pugnacious Andrew Johnson seemed to share their goals. With profound insights and making use of extensive research, Brenda Wineapple dramatically evokes this pivotal period in American history, when the country was rocked by the first-ever impeachment of a sitting American president.

Interesting piece of forgotten history
Revisado: 10-03-19
If you want to understand what happened between the death of Abraham Lincoln and the civil rights movement of the 1960's, this book is a great place to start. It does a great job of describing the institutional bigotry and division that remained embedded in the country after the civil war and for decades to come.
It's also interesting to read in light of current politics. If Andrew Johnson wasn't convicted by the senate after he was impeached, is it possible that anyone ever will be?

Another fun read from Douglas Richards
Revisado: 10-03-19
Douglas Richards is a fun author to read. The plot lines give you a lot to contemplate - kind of like playing a game of "would you rather" trying to work out ethical and moral dilemmas by considering seemingly impossible scenarios. He isn't the best writer, by far, but he does put together books that keep your attention.
It does drive me nuts how 'wryly' is the only way that anyone ever says anything, except for when they 'sigh.' Also, the romantic scenes should be left out. They are written so awkwardly...
The performer tends to trail off at the end of sentences, making it so that part of the sentence can be heard at a normal volume, but you can't hear the end of the sentence. I've never experienced this with other audible performers, but this was really annoying after awhile. The entire book, I could not find a comfortable volume level that worked with the inconsistent recording.

Best book I have read this year
Revisado: 10-03-19
This is not the type of book I would normally read. I typically read action/adventure or mysteries. This book tells the story of two families, interconnected by both love and tragedy. Each character has a rich story that is expertly told by the author. I honestly couldn't say who the 'main' character is because each individual character had their own story that was fully explored, and each story tied in perfectly to the overall theme of the book. This is one that I will likely listen to again.
