This is a great story and should be *read*. The American accented narrators cannot read British slang with any believability (this coming from an American). The female narrator was fine, like 2.5-3 stars. The male narrator is heinous for romance. His Japanese accent was as cartoonish and offensive as Mickey Rooney’s Chinese accent from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The French accent was awful as well. This narrator would be best for straight up American accented science fiction or technical manuals.

WWTD? Yeah, don’t do that. This installment of ZF was really good. Mike was less angsty and some very intriguing details were introduced. Some questions that have been hanging for three or four books have *finally* been addressed. Alt Mike show a grungier uglier side to a Talbot gone wrong. Overall, awesome job Mark. I will always come back for more.

It’s insanely hard to review only one book in any of the Michael Talbot adventures. This book is bittersweet with continuing evolution of Mike’s family members; glimpses into Mike’s snowballing PTSD; and echos into the past. Readers are again given answers only to have more questions to pop up. Mark Tufo is a great puzzle maker. His books are a pleasure to read.

Others are better at leaving detailed reviews. I just have a recommendation. Read the book and skip the audio version. The book would have been completely satisfying had the male narrator not sounded like Norm MacDonald. His voice took me out of the story and onto the set of SNL. The female narrator was great, which is why I gave the narration 3 stars.

The narration is a big fat NO! The female voice didn’t match the age range and made the female characters sound slightly hysterical. The male narrator used the same voice for each character, some high dude with a swollen tongue. The story had me hooked. I’m not sure why. The writing is weird, some of the characters are so layered I didn’t know who they really were. One of my favorite characters dropped off the face of the planet. But I still had to know what happened. So I switched to reading it.

I’ve enjoyed the storyline of this series. I’m looking forward to listening to the next books. However, the narration is so good that I’d listen to them read a cookbook. The male narrator plays many different characters. Each has a unique voice and I never get confused. So good!
