Common sense isn’t all that common
Revisado: 03-12-24
Being a clinical hypnotist, I’m always looking for new insights and techniques to help my clients and myself. The author Yefim Shubentsov has been on my radar as someone to learn from for decades now. I know of him by another name, which I’ll let him tell you when you read the book. Apparently he’s now retired. I hope he’s still with us and enjoying his retirement. People have come to me thru the years to become non-smokers, referring to him. I knew I had to explore his techniques and practices. I’m so glad that, with Barbara Gordon’s help, he put his thoughts into this book, making it available to anyone. Thank you Yefim. I intend to develop the bio-energy he teaches, and share his insights with clients as I change my own habits, becoming a more fulfilled individual.

Historia
In his follow-up to the acclaimed Hellraisers, Sellers traces the intertwining lives and careers of four outrageous Hollywood movie mavericks. They’re the baddest bad-asses Hollywood as ever seen: Marlon Brando, Dennis Hopper, Warren Beatty, and Jack Nicholson. They are men to whom rules did not apply; normal standards of behavior were simply too wearisome to worry about.

Revisado: 10-20-23
Lots of sex, drugs and guys that took life as the playground we all wish we had the courage to live. They left behind some classic films and plenty of dogs as well as kids, pain and a taste of what living on the edge is all about.
The book seemed to go on forever.

Historia
Words. We use them all the time, every day, mostly without giving them much thought at all. We take for granted that they’re here at our disposal whenever we need them. But if you’ve ever wished you could communicate more effectively, words are the place to start. It’s incumbent upon you to choose the best words to accomplish your goals, because how you choose to communicate influences—well, everything! The power of communication shapes our professional goals, our relationships, and our lives—so the words we choose to use carry a great deal of power.

Thoughtful communication strategies

Really enjoyed this lecture series. Reminded me of many things I knew and opened me up to new ways of thinking about, and potentially implementing, strategic communication.
The author was well researched and pleasant to spend my time with.

Historia
Los Angeles in the 1960s: riots in Watts and on the Sunset Strip, wild weekends in Malibu, late nights at The Daisy discotheque, openings at the Ferus Gallery, and the convergence of pop art, rock and roll, and the New Hollywood. At the center of it all, one inspired, improbable, and highly combustible couple—Dennis Hopper and Brooke Hayward—lived out the emblematic love story of ’60s L.A.

1712 was the place to be
Revisado: 01-05-23
Very glad I spent my time with this memoir of a period and place in world culture history that still reverberates today. The art, the music, the characters and the whole scene were captured and explored with insight and excitement. You could tell the author loved uncovering the feel of that time and place; 1712 and LA and of course Easy Rider and a new approach to movie making. I don’t remember who turned me on to this book but I’m grateful that they did.
Why the publisher chose the title and cover picture is beyond me. Not very inviting.

What a life
Revisado: 10-25-22
So wonderful hearing Graham’s life story thru his own voice and words. Here’s a man how said Yes to life and has the talent to back it up and contribute. Being the only CSNY member biography I’ve read, I suspect there may be different interpretations within some of his stories, but that’s just speculation. At the core, it’s all about the music and he was there, right in the midst of it.
Well written and read. Highly suggested.

Historia
Punk rock and hip-hop, disco and salsa, the loft jazz scene and the downtown composers known as Minimalists—in the mid-1970s, New York City was a laboratory where all the major styles of modern music were reinvented, all at once, from one block to the next, by musicians who knew, admired, and borrowed from one another.

Like feeling my own blood pumping, life, music, breath
Revisado: 09-22-21
The most impressive point, for me, was the depth of music influences Hermès brought together to form this account. His knowledge and passion flowed like a series of mountain streams coming together, heading toward the Hudson. Well read and written. Enjoyed every minute of it. Learned a lot.

Historia
Here Comes the Night: Bert Berns and the Dirty Business of Rhythm and Blues is both a definitive account of the New York rhythm and blues world of the early '60s, and the harrowing, ultimately tragic story of songwriter and record producer Bert Berns, whose meteoric career was fueled by his pending doom. His heart damaged by rheumatic fever as a youth, doctors told Berns he would not live to see 21. Although his name is little remembered today, Berns worked alongside all the greats of the era.

Revisado: 09-09-21
I have a new appreciation and understanding of Bert Berns and this special time in pop music history. Didn’t want the book to end… yet I knew he died young and the book would end, but not the story.
Production was great and the voice reader did a terrific job.

Powerful Hypnosis Technique
Revisado: 06-16-21
A well explained and effective way of working with clients, colleagues or friends to conversationally lead them into hypnotic trance. Graham demonstrates how easy it is to use this induction, adjusting the approach depending upon the responsiveness of the client. Elegant and adaptable, the Leisure induction is one that every hypnotist should practice and be familiar with. The performance by Meiji was well suited to the subject. I have this as a Kindle book and I believe I’ll be visiting the audio more often than re-reading it. Both are great. Definitely worthy of your time and money.

Very very very OK
Revisado: 10-23-20
After making my way thru this thing I felt more educated about this period and place in music history but less impassioned with the characters. The writing didn’t inspire me to care more. It made me want to care less. It dragged from the mid-point onward. Hoskyn’s Woodstock book was much more interesting because he uncovered the deeper motives, character, pain and underlying passions of the that time and place. Maybe his heart and connections for interviews rested on the East Coast. One other point, Nick’s female affected voice was... not very attractive. Sorry Joni
