I continued and will continue this series, because the plot of the story has me completely invested, but I can honestly say that I spent the first and this second book experiencing varying degrees of annoyance only. As others mentioned, the story spends waaaaaaay too much time in inner dialogue. I thought about skipping so many times, but this is not like reading a book, and the time that it would take to go back and forth to find a place to skip to was not worth it, so I figured to just let it play out. Also, I just cannot get on board with the female lead. I understand her mentioning that she faked being tough and spoke the way she did as a way of bolstering her confidence, but I just could not believe that with all she experienced and lived through that she failed to develop the necessary smarts and skills to survive... That she retained such a level of naivete so as to really not know what was happening to and around her... That she didn't know to put her damned heel through Mr. Smith's eyeballs after what she did do. Ugh. Also, Dominic's voice does not fit. He sounds too old and not remotely sexy. Just my thoughts.
