Dr Betty Shabazz is a feminist icon
Revisado: 11-02-20
Ilyasah tells us about her mother’s life after her father’s assassination. It is an important story that needs to be told. Dr. Betty Shabazz was a true help-mate to Malcolm X and is a feminist icon.

Historia
Imagine a chimpanzee rampaging through a data center powering everything from Google to Facebook. Infrastructure engineers use a software version of this "chaos monkey" to test online services' robustness - their ability to survive random failure and correct mistakes before they actually occur. Tech entrepreneurs are society's chaos monkeys, disruptors testing and transforming every aspect of our lives from transportation (Uber) and lodging (AirBnB) to television (Netflix) and dating (Tinder).

Especially valuable if you work in ad-tech
Revisado: 01-02-17
If you could sum up Chaos Monkeys in three words, what would they be?
Pay close attention to what the author writes and, if need be, read it again. There is a lot to learn here about the future of the internet if you plan to stay on it. Advertising dollars fuels the free internet and Martinez explains some of the inner workings of the ad-tech industry in an open manner. Ad-tech is rife with "industry speak" and it is not easy to find someone willing or capable of giving simple explanations. As a product manager, Martinez is privy to a lot of knowledge.
What other book might you compare Chaos Monkeys to and why?
"Disrupted" by Dan Lyons in how the curtain is pulled back on a modern-day and influential industry. That stated, in no way is Hubspot Facebook.
Which character – as performed by Dan John Miller – was your favorite?
The narrator is cheeky and speaks plainly.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
No idea. (When you read or listen to the book you will understand why.)
Any additional comments?
I purchased the book after I bought the audiobook. It may be easier to read it then to listen to it. I am glad I have both versions though and consider it a good investment.

Required listening for everyone, every year
Revisado: 01-02-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Managing Oneself to be better than the print version?
It is handy to listen to it while on the go. The audiobook is short.
What other book might you compare Managing Oneself to and why?
"Who Moved My Cheese" by Spencer Johnson only in that it gets to the point and teaches a valuable lesson clearly.
Which character – as performed by uncredited – was your favorite?
The narrator has an excellent voice and I enjoyed his narration greatly. This audiobook was a great value - bought for less than a dollar - and one that I recommend to everyone.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. Yes. Yes. I can listen to this over and over again.
Any additional comments?
If you have a high school student in your life, send them this book. It will help them immensely with their future choices and approaches.

Historia
An instant New York Times best seller, Dan Lyons' "hysterical" (Recode) memoir, hailed by the Los Angeles Times as "the best book about Silicon Valley," takes listeners inside the maddening world of fad-chasing venture capitalists, sales bros, social climbers, and sociopaths at today's tech startups. For 25 years Dan Lyons was a magazine writer at the top of his profession - until one Friday morning when he received a phone call: Poof. His job no longer existed. "I think they just want to hire younger people," his boss at Newsweek told him.

ASOIAF: You cannot go wrong adding this
Revisado: 07-05-16
Would you consider the audio edition of A Dance with Dragons to be better than the print version?
No and simply because it is difficult to distinguish between internal and external dialogue in the audio version. The ability to do this is crucial to the story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Wyman Manderly! He is bold and brilliant and I have a soft spot for fat, smart men.
Have you listened to any of Roy Dotrice’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He has a strong speaking voice.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The reader's voice is very important to me
Revisado: 07-05-16
What did you love best about The Little Prince?
The entire story. Beauty, love, internal freedom and strength. Perfection.
What other book might you compare The Little Prince to and why?
"The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" for the magic of it all.
Have you listened to any of Humphrey Bower’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to any of his performances before. I prefer to listen to a male reading voice but just did not warm to this one.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
My heart moves with this book.

Historia
The Hidden Factor defines what executive presence really is, how you get it, and how it can be leveraged to define a leader better than any other quality being measured. Executive presence has always existed, but in recent years, it has resurfaced as a hot topic among C-Suite executives, succession planners, and development officers. It is one of the top qualities evaluated in potential leaders and is often the missing component that limits promotion.
