Historia
Bestselling Hollywood biographer and film historian Scott Eyman tells the story of Charlie Chaplin’s fall from grace. In the aftermath of World War II, Chaplin was criticized for being politically liberal and internationalist in outlook. He had never become a US citizen, something that would be held against him as xenophobia set in when the postwar Red Scare took hold. In Charlie Chaplin vs. America, Scott Eyman explores the life and times of the movie genius who brought us such masterpieces as City Lights and Modern Times.

Many interesting points, but too long

The story is very comprehensive and detailed. In many cases that gave insights. However, a story could be equally effective with half the content. I listen to the book at 2X speed.

Historia
Interference is the true history of the most important and consequential decisions, obstacles, and quandaries Mueller and his team faced when investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. For the first time, Mueller’s only deputy, his most senior counselor who served on the Watergate Special Prosecution Force, and the lead prosecutor looking into obstruction of justice and Russian interference, have come together to tell a highly relevant and compelling account of what it was like to carry out their investigation of election interference.

Important Message- maybe too late
Revisado: 12-05-24
The story is a factual update on what every American should know. Much of the Mueller report was lost in all of the noise. The story tells of people’s commitment to the rule of law and how political forces can’t work against there good intentions.

This is a story that everyone should be familiar with. Fortunately, it is well written and well delivered, which makes the experience delightful.

Historia
Anthony Fauci is arguably the most famous–and most revered–doctor in the world today. His role guiding America sanely and calmly through Covid (and through the torrents of Trump) earned him the trust of millions during one of the most terrifying periods in modern American history, but this was only the most recent of the global epidemics in which Dr. Fauci played a major role. His crucial role in researching HIV and bringing AIDS into sympathetic public view and his leadership in navigating the Ebola, SARS, West Nile, and anthrax crises, make him truly an American hero.

Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

This book does an excellent job of identifying the causes and impacts of many things I have observed and been concerned about. The causes are clear. More important, solutions are simple and inexpensive.

Historia
Few figures in American politics have seen more and said less than Mitt Romney. An outspoken dissident in Donald Trump’s GOP, he has made headlines in recent years for standing alone against the forces he believes are poisoning the party he once led. Romney was the first senator in history to vote to remove from office a president of his own party. When that president’s supporters went on to storm the US Capitol, Romney delivered a thundering speech from the Senate floor accusing his fellow Republicans of stoking insurrection.

I didn’t vote for him for president. Had he won, the country would be the better for his leadership and character. I don’t agree with his position on key issues. I agree with his values which is more important.

Historia
From the outside, Harold is an average seven-year-old third grader growing up in the 1960s. Bored by school. Crushing on a girl. Likes movies and baseball—especially the hometown Boston Red Sox. Enjoys spending time with his grandfather. But inside Harold’s mind, things are a lot more complex and unusual. His thoughts come to him as birds flying through a small rectangle in the middle of his brain. He visits an outdoor cafe on the moon and is invited aboard a spaceship by famed astronomer Carl Sagan.

The Moment of Truth for All of Us
Revisado: 12-19-23
As an independent, I have not been fond of the Cheney political mindset. One of the powers of our country is the right to disagree and still work together.
This book represents reality that everyone of every political persuasion should hear and understand.
It is objective, factual, and startling. We ignore these facts at our apparel as a country. In a time of polarization it is easy to isolate who we listen to.
Chaney speaks as a staunch Republican, giving a warning about the perils of the cur rent Republican party. As a Democrat or independent, one must also hear and respect the courage she demonstrates proving these facts.
The implications are clear. The called action is pressing.

Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

This important truth is painful and necessary for all
Revisado: 10-21-23
The stories are meaningful and well delivered. They document the many failings and a few successes. If we can repent as a nation and as individuals, we have a chance to move forward.
I would have liked to see incremental steps toward progress. Safe quality schools for all and affordable college for example. Reversing the incarceration rate and move toward a war on inequality rather than on “crime.”
Everyone should read/listen to this book.
