Historia
In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.

Incredible narration by Meryl Streep!
Revisado: 04-03-25
The book was in itself very good—Meryl Streep just tripled that effect!! She did such a great job of portraying the character!

Historia
In 1973, Norma Cobb, her husband Lester, and their five children pulled up stakes in the lower 48 and headed north to Alaska to follow a pioneer dream of claiming land under the Homestead Act. The only land available lay north of Fairbanks near the Arctic Circle where grizzlies outnumbered humans 20 to one. In addition to fierce winters and predatory animals, the Alaskan frontier drew the more unsavory elements of society's fringes. From the beginning, the Cobbs found themselves pitted in a life or death feud with unscrupulous neighbors who would rob from new settlers.

Narration was hard to take
Revisado: 02-18-25
The story was good and worthy, but would have been far better reading it than listening to it. There was so much emphatic drama on almost every word and I kept thinking how it was way too much. There was a lot of events happening continuously, but I can’t imagine the author putting that kind of drama into each sentence.

The horrible male voice
Revisado: 01-23-25
The story was OK, but the “male” voice and sometimes the female voice was overwhelmingly awful, hateful, more angry than what I hope the author intended. This is one book I wish I had “read” instead of listened to.

Historia
For millennia the location of the Nile River’s headwaters was shrouded in mystery. In the 19th century, there was a frenzy of interest in ancient Egypt. At the same time, European powers sent off waves of explorations intended to map the unknown corners of the globe—and extend their colonial empires.

Horrible Narration
Revisado: 02-15-23
I heard such great reviews about this book but the narration was so terrible, I had to return it before I could even get started! These women were in their late 40’s but sounded like the lead character was 85 years old! I just couldn’t do it.

Historia
A soul-stirring new musical conceived by New York Times best-selling novelist Jodi Picoult and playwright Timothy Allen McDonald, Breathe places listeners inside the walls of five homes during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Filled with songs and vignettes that examine new relationships, rekindling flames, parenting, racial reckoning, and grief during a pandemic, this incredibly timely world premiere—written and produced online in 2020 in real-time as events unfolded—reflects the very topics that weighed on the hearts and minds of Americans.

Too much “immature” psychological drama. I couldn’t decide between 2 or 3 stars but since I finished it, gave a 3. Would not recommend it.
