Historia
New York Times best-selling author Margaret George captures history's most enthralling queen-as she confronts rivals to her throne and to her heart. One of today's premier historical novelists, George dazzles here as she tackles her most difficult subject yet: the legendary Elizabeth Tudor, queen of enigma - the Virgin Queen who had many suitors; the victor of the Armada who hated war; the gorgeously attired, jewel-bedecked woman who pinched pennies.

Unreadable
Revisado: 05-23-25
I do not say this lightly. It is not interesting, terribly written, and hard to follow. The narration is so slow I have it set to 1.6 speed.
I so thought I would love this. Just awful, and I can't force myself to finish it.

Historia
A humble fisherman’s life is changed forever when he catches a genie who fills his net with magical fish, the first of many unusual transformations in this ancient tale. Bedtime stories are narrated by the world’s most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don’t stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on, but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.

The story was intriguing, and I was invested. It ended with no resolution! I want to know the rest of the story and no idea where to even look for it...ugh!

Depressing, upsetting, and made zero sense. Read reviews with spoilers to fill in any BDB blanks. These wolven books are a complete waste of time and aren't even about the wolven!

SPOILERS
Revisado: 01-05-25
I really did not enjoy this one. There were good moments but it was an overall buzz kill, and I'm hoping the next one returns to what I've come to enjoy from this series.
Agree with some earlier reviews that these books are an escape from reality for me, and reading about the impending death of a loved one just isn't what I'm looking for. Understand there needs to be tension and drama, and I don't need an unrealistic deus ex machina either, but I want things to turn out happily in reasonably short order in a book of this genre.
Also agree the change in name pronunciations was weird after 13 books, but it was easy to assimilate because I knew in advance (thanks prior reviewers!).
Felt like I couldn't skip it because I didn't want to miss the side stories that could become important in future books. There was definitely information in this book that will come back up - so, increase the listening speed and just slog through...

Love John Michael's story!
Revisado: 12-27-24
Have enjoyed learning more about John Michael and his set. I really found Fury's story annoying after a while, though. First time I've felt this way reading this series. Think it's an anomaly, but I would have just skipped this one after a while - didn't because the rest of the story was really compelling!

Tough to follow
Revisado: 12-19-24
I understand why the professor used accurate old Norse pronunciation, but it made it difficult to follow. I think I would have enjoyed this more if I didn't have to go through the mental gymnastics of translating "Othin" to "Odin" and such literally every other word.

Historia
Grace O'Malley, daughter of a clan chief in the far west of Ireland, went from marriage at fifteen to piracy on the high seas. She soon had a fleet of galleys under her commander, but her three decades of plundering, kidnapping, murder and mayhem came to a close in 1586, when she was captured and sentenced to hang. Saved from the scaffold by none other than Queen Elizabeth herself—another powerful woman in a man's world—Grace's life took another extraordinary turn, when it was rumored she had become intelligencer for the queen's spymaster, Sir Francis Walsingham.

Not really about Grace
Revisado: 10-20-24
The book was interesting, but it was more Irish history of the time than specifically about Grace because, as the author acknowledged, there is little source material about her.

Historia
The official and definitive biography of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother: Consort of King George VI, mother of Queen Elizabeth II, grandmother of Prince Charles - and the most beloved British monarch of the 20th century. Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon - the ninth of the Earl of Strathmore’s 10 children - was born on August 4, 1900, and, certainly, no one could have imagined that her long life (she died in 2002) would come to reflect a changing nation over the course of an entire century.
