Very interesting story
Revisado: 01-23-18
It's a really interesting story overall. I downloaded in parts and there was a weird glitch where the app skipped to the wrong part, so maybe look up the table of contents online if you're doing multi-part download and just make sure it skips you to the correct one.

Historia
In 1942, Lawrence Pritchard Waterhouse - mathematical genius and young Captain in the US Navy - is assigned to detachment 2702. It is an outfit so secret that only a handful of people know it exists, and some of those people have names like Churchill and Roosevelt. The mission of Watrehouse and Detachment 2702 - commanded by Marine Raider Bobby Shaftoe - is to keep the Nazis ignorant of the fact that Allied Intelligence has cracked the enemy's fabled Enigma code. In the present, Waterhouse's crypto-hacker grandson, Randy, is attempting to create a "data haven" in Southeast Asia....

Historia
A revolution brewing for generations has begun in fire. It will end in blood. The Free Navy - a violent group of Belters in black-market military ships - has crippled the Earth and begun a campaign of piracy and violence among the outer planets. The colony ships heading for the 1,000 new worlds on the far side of the alien ring gates are easy prey, and no single navy remains strong enough to protect them. James Holden and his crew know the strengths and weaknesses of this new force better than anyone.

An excellent continuation of the Expanse story. The only downside is that now I have to wait for the next one.

A good story, badly narrated
Revisado: 08-15-16
The change of narrator really made this a difficult book to get through. I probably wouldn't have stuck with if not for the knowledge that the next book goes returns to the previous narrator.
I wouldn't say that this book's narrator is inherently bad, but he did not seem to understand the characters who he was portraying. For example, Miller is made to sound like a robot, and his narration of Avasarala's lines is beyond awful.
The narration which just involves telling the story is fine, but this book is dialogue heavy, and as such the majority of the narration is quite jarring to listen to.
If you're invested in the series, there's still a good story here, so if you can handle the narration definitely still give it a listen...

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Good story, great performance
Revisado: 04-29-16
The story, while entertaining, will be very familiar territory for Alien fans. It is the quality of the performances and production which elevates what would otherwise be a decent but forgettable story to a very enjoyable and engaging listening experience.

Historia
The Galactics arrived with their Battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spans the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder. In 2122 a lost colony expedition contacts Earth, surprising our government. Colonization is against Galactic Law, and Legion Varus is dispatched to the system to handle the situation. Earth gave them sealed orders, but Earth is 35 lightyears away.

cliche in parts but exciting and action packed
Revisado: 01-28-15
What did you love best about Dust World?
Like the first book in the Undying Mercenaries series, Dust World is exciting and action packed. A rich an imaginative scifi setting is well established early on and the story plays out like an enjoyable action movie. The sort of book that you'll enjoy if you like films such as Starship Troopers and other scifi action.
What did you like best about this story?
The exciting pace and the scifi setting
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
As a 12 or so hour book, it is not something that I would listen to in one sitting.
Any additional comments?
The book plays like a B-grade scifi film.Fun, enjoyable and exciting, but at times difficult to take seriously.James McGill is largely an enjoyable protagonist but the series treats women as props and employs many other scifi cliches which become grating after a while. While Larson does not reinvent the scifi genre, but the worlds which he establishes and the stories he tells are enjoyable and exciting.Treat this like a Friday night action film, try not to think too hard about some of the more nuanced aspects of the story and go along for the ride and you'll enjoy it.
