Historia
Net curtains twitch furiously, and neighbours have observations to make to Chief Inspector Purbright and Sergeant Love about the inhabitants of 14, Beatrice Avenue. Nice Gordon Periam, the mild-mannered tobacconist, and his rather less nice (in fact a bit of a bounder) lodger Brian Hopjoy had apparently shared the house amicably. But now neither man is to be found, and something very disagreeable seems to be lurking in the drains.... Then a couple of government spooks turn up, one with an eye for the ladies - the drama is acquiring overtones of a Bond movie!

I haven't yet made up my mind about this story. I don't think it is up to the same standards as "A Bump in the Night" and "One Coffin, Scarcely Used." I do like this series.

Historia
Inspector Purbright is a thoroughly English policeman: affable, polite, dogged and decent. Created by award-winning crime writer Colin Watson, he appeared in 12 Flaxborough mysteries, four of which were adapted for BBC TV under the title Murder Most English. These five radio dramatisations star Peter Jeffrey, John Pullen and John Rowe as Purbright.

My favorite is "A Bump in the Night" because I think this story has the best sense of humor. The actors' voices fit their characters. My least favorite is "Lonely Hearts...."

Historia
Astonishingly more key evidence is accessible today than was presented at the death penalty trial of Bruno Richard Hauptmann for the kidnap/murder of Charles Lindbergh, Jr. You get to judge for yourself who committed the "crime of the century". This shocking but true story is told in dozens of short, riveting chapters you can't put down. In the depths of the Depression, millions worldwide followed every twist and turn of the Lindbergh baby kidnap/murder.

Good story
Revisado: 05-29-22
I've learned over the years that we should idolize concepts, not people. Since the average person doesn't know the celebrities they hold in awe, it can be a serious let down when ominous details emerge about their personal lives. The details about Lindbergh's personality are disturbing at best, and I can't help wonder how his wife felt when she learned what her husband was really like throughout their years together. Given how he was raised and what his views were, I still find it hard to believe any parent could do the things he did or let happen to his son. Yet, the facts as presented make it plausible that the father did have a hand in the disappearance and subsequent death of his son. The author is meticulous but I do wish she had allowed a professional reader to narrate.

In an era when numerous modern media outlets rail about the guilt of their political enemies for speaking untruths, Postgate proves that the media can often credibly be viewed as the party actually guilty of deception. Americans today mistrust the major media more than ever. Postgate will prove that this distrust is richly deserved.

Answers some questions
Revisado: 05-13-22
I always wondered why the Washington Post got so much credit for exposing Watergate when other journalists were actually doing so much more in regards to reporting facts. Ever since Woodward and Bernstein admitted that their book contained "inaccuracies" and was not always factual to help sell the book, I have learned to question what I learn in the press. I do my own research when a story of interest pops up. This book promotes theories that could be credible if true. I thought it was interesting, nonetheless.

Historia
In the early hours of June 17, 1972, a security guard named Frank Wills enters six words into the log book of the Watergate office complex that will change the course of history: 1:47 AM Found tape on doors; call police. The subsequent arrests of five men seeking to bug and burgle the Democratic National Committee offices—three of them Cuban exiles, two of them former intelligence operatives—quickly unravels a web of scandal that ultimately ends a presidency and forever alters views of moral authority and leadership.

Historia
The US government has spent half the time covering up conspiracies as it has spent helping the American people. In Hidden History, you will see the amount of effort over the past fifty years that our government has dedicated to lying and covering up the truth to the world. Starting with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Don Jeffries chronicles a wide variety of issues that have plagued our country's history.

Too much trashy opinion
Revisado: 11-01-20
This is a great book for conspiracy theorists who don't believe anything as put forth by the government and the media. Every move, every law was suspect for motive. I was turned off by the amount of negative speculation on every president. It seemed none of them had any redeeming qualities.

This book is a major expose of a government coverup that has lasted half a century. The book reveals never-before-heard testimony that has been uncovered by the authors in the years since the sex scandal broke.

Good history about this affair
Revisado: 08-27-20
The movie "Scandal" left me with the feeling that Ward was thrown under the bus to protect others. The Profumo affair put fear in many at the top and they needed Ward as their scapegoat. Keeler and Davies helped the situation along with their greed and desire for fame. I've seen a few Keeler interviews and she didn't mention shopping around her story to the highest bidder. I am glad to know more of the truth than what was let on soon after this story broke.
I did not have an issue with the narrator. He was okay.

Historia
Some of the legendary gunmen of the Old West were lawmen, but more, like Billy the Kid and Jesse James, were outlaws. Tom Horn (1860-1903) was both. Lawman, soldier, hired gunman, detective, outlaw, and assassin, this darkly enigmatic figure has fascinated Americans ever since his death by hanging the day before his 43rd birthday. In this masterful historical biography, Larry Ball, a distinguished historian of western lawmen and outlaws, presents the definitive account of Horn’s career.

Interesting story about a complex man
Revisado: 07-25-20
I always wondered about this character because the mysteries of his life made a fascinating study for me. To me, he sounds like a basically insecure man who could not come to terms with how good he was at whatever he took on. I say that because of his bragging, embellishing and over-exaggerations when his reputation already spoke volumes. Then there was his dark side, the killer for hire who maybe enjoyed that work when he should not have. It's too bad his career came to the end it did. As for the narration, I am not too picky about that because I was too engrossed in the story. I don't think he is as bad as some have said. This is definitely worth a listen if you like western history.

The reader sounded a little stilted but he as clear and sometimes concise. There was some replication of information, though. If you are a conspiracy theorist, this may be of interest. Author did present some new information.
