Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Too Long! Cut it Back Steve!
Revisado: 12-07-23
This book was entirely too long. The first 8 hrs could’ve easily been cut. It isn’t until halfway that we finally know where the story was going. Insomnia is a horrible name for the book since it doesn’t play heavily into the plot.
Eli Wallach RIP was fantastic and would’ve make a great Ralph in live action if the movie was made.
This would work better as a film or mini series but the book is too dang long and meanders. At least in the Tower books some of it tied in later or at least made me laugh. There’s a lot of complaining dialogue in the first half which got old fast.
The big villain was criminally underdeveloped and 2D. More time could’ve been spent developing him in the first half or so of the story.
Music, yeah it was a bit too loud sometimes. At times is did drown out Eli, but it helped get me through very boring parts of the story.
Good ending, I felt King stuck the ending which he doesn’t always do.
Steve has written some great classics but this is a clear cut (pun-intended) example of why he needs an editor or the editor he has needs to be harder on him.
2 and a half stars!

Forget Everything You Think You Know (About Chinese Culture) & Pick Up This Book!
Revisado: 08-08-23
Review for Gene
There are a lot of great lessons in this book. In fact, it’s worth reading multiple times for the important lessons about the differences between the U.S. & China
I learned that the chasm between the western and eastern cultures can be vast and as different as night & day but our emotional similarities are universal.
Gene gives great examples of miscommunication with his coworkers and the cultural implications that cause it.
If you’re looking to expand your knowledge in cultural behavior, forget everything you think you know and read this book. If you’re looking to do business in China, this book is a must and I have no doubt that it will aid you on your journey of understanding.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

There Are Almost No Words
Revisado: 03-26-22
How do you not write a review after listening to this. Listen to this one at the gym, on long walks, on the way to work, etc...it will change you, if you seriously give it a chance. some of the stories are hard to believe but that just sheds a light at what I thought possible out of a human. Goggins is the real deal, a self-made Stan Lee superhero who used his pain as fuel to become that.
Now I have a better understanding of what drives AAA personalities that rock climb and do extreme sports. Maybe Goggins didn't start off that way but he sure made himself be that. What an incredible journey he takes us on. The podcast style interviews are good as well. This book makes one really look at his or her own life and see how much farther they can push themselves. Everyone needs to read or listen to this book. I was sad when it ended.
Make mine Goggins and go hard!

Stay focused here King
Revisado: 12-22-16
While the overall premise and story is good, I think King could've done major edits here. There's a lot or time spent on things being done at the characters places of work and for some reason a sexual subplot that doesn't really seem to tie in with the main plot of a mad dog. Whenever the story is focused on Cujo and the people around him it's all good but when it strays by going too far into other characters lives it starts to drag, quite a bit. The momentum of the climax gets split up too much with other sideline characters when it needs to focused on what's happening with the lead protagonist.
The imagery and suspense created during the mad dog scenes are top notch though and makes me want to
re-watch the movie.
I like how King wraps up the end though and it can be worth reading/listening to during the Cujo parts that's why I gave it the rating I did.
I also got a kick from the female narrater describing the sexual lewdness and violent gory acts performed in this. She sounded like a school teacher reading for a class of 3rd graders.

These Kind of Books Aren't For Everybody
Revisado: 10-13-16
While it's a strong story and interesting and despicable things do happen, there's just one too many a character to keep track of.
It's like eating a piece of really rich chocolate lake but there's just an overbearing amount or sweetness to it.
These stories, just like the cake, must be taken in small bite-sized chunks.
A lot could've been cut out here.
I'll stick to the HBO show, but that's just me.

Historia
On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

For Jason's sake!! That was epic!
Revisado: 10-14-15
That was a well done quest book! Memorable characters and plausible scenarios make it great.
Frank Muller as always, gave a hilarious and perfect performance.
My only real grip was that it was just a bit too long, other then that it was a more then satisfactory.
Jack and Wolf were a great team and I found myself really caring for both of them.
It could be a suspenseful story and it had a lot of sub-plots and felt like there were many stories within the main one. I also think a big strength of this book is actually the simple save-his- mom plot. As much as it got off track at times, I never lost sight of the main quest and plot point which was always a breath of fresh air.
I appreciate the references in The Dark Tower to this and I'll have to reread where they talked about Jack Sawyer.
Also, the character Speedy reminded me a bit of Scatman Crothers 😄👍🏼

Historia
Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, The Gunslinger introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea in the first volume of The Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange single-mindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape of good and evil.

Has Potential
Revisado: 04-08-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would because of the start of a potentially
huge and great story in the making. It's like a
Sergio Leone movie mixed in with a horror story with
demons and monsters.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The second act seems to meander and lose focus. It goes back
and forth from present to flashback quite a bit.
It's easy to get lost in the words and metaphors if
you're not paying attention.
I would've appreciated more character development
during the present story.
What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?
His voice has a lot of weight to it and can change
characters well.
If you could rename The Gunslinger, what would you call it?
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Demons :)
Any additional comments?
I liked it. Not much to the first part of the series but there's some
great stuff here. Parts of it reminds me of The Stand. Worth a second
Iisten to catch what you missed the first time.
