As a massive hurricane rolls toward the Louisiana coast, Army veteran Mason Sharpe is sheltering in Mobile, Alabama. There he meets Jessica and her gifted ten-year-old daughter, Autumn, who are fleeing a different kind of storm—an abusive husband and father with violent tendencies. When Autumn disappears just as the hurricane is about to make landfall, Jessica is certain that Autumn's deadbeat dad Randy has taken her. She turns to Mason for help.

I was hooked from the first paragraph. I figured out the narrative early on, but stayed for the performance and handsome storytelling.

We believe these are the divisions that are threatening to tear America apart. But what if the culprit isn't a political ideology or a class of people but a puppet master? He's been manipulating us for centuries - and now he's brought us to the brink of implosion.

I returned the book
Revisado: 04-17-23
After an hour of sort of "witty" quips about the state of things in today's culture, I gave up waiting any longer for some attempt at a solution. It sounded like a sarcastic fourteen year old who criticizes everything but with no sense of history or nuance. The narrator did an excellent job of selling the immature and unexceptional character of the "demon" . Thanks but no thanks Audible.

I wasn't sure about the concept, but with each chapter I was drawn deeper into the story. The author is extremely talented, and the narrator kept me glued until the very end.... a wild adventure, and a really cool ride!

Not into gay sex ....way too much
Revisado: 07-16-21
If I were a gay man I would probably love this book. Well written and well performed. But the panting, heavy breathing, groping scenes consistently detailed in the book left me reaching for the control to bypass the sex scenes. Finally I said enough.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

What a difference time makes
Revisado: 07-23-20
Written before we learned about the Obama deceptions and the lying media, this author is naive about both. The story is listenable until the final hour when he diminishes the concerns of the "deplorables" who forecast how corrupt both Obama and the fake news would eventually be. I wonder if he is embarrassed now. Otherwise, the account of his Kentucky history is ok.

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

Revisado: 11-08-15
Gorgeous writing, and brilliant narration......I had just finished "All the Light You Cannot See" and thought another WWII story might be overdoing the topic. But the exceptional treatment of the characters by both authors, and the wonderful performances by both narrators was like getting two perfect gifts.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

My first King listen..........
Revisado: 12-19-11
Fabulous writing...I'm a confirmed King fan from here on. Time travel is a genre that often gets ridiculous very quickly, but King's treatment is so engaging...a cliff hanger even as we all know the outcome. That must take formidable skill.
