Historia
It's late 1936, and King Edward is in turmoil, having fallen in love with the scandalously divorced and even more scandalously American Wallis Simpson. He wants to marry her but knows that doing so will jeopardize his crown. Edward confides in his dear friend Darcy, Georgie's husband, and the couple agree to hide Wallis in their home while Edward figures out what to do. But unbeknownst to Georgie and Darcy, Sir Hubert, the owner of the estate, has given a film crew permission to shoot a motion picture about Henry the Eighth and Anne Boleyn on the grounds

Good amount of interesting info in a condensed time.

Traveling thru Florida we wanted a high level history of the area, not 20 hours deep but not Wikipedia short either. This was a great middle ground. Lots of interesting places and people and stories.

Historia
From the tip of his black Homburg to the crease in his cheviot trousers, Drew Farthering is the epitome of a stylish 1930s English gentleman. His only problem? The body he just discovered. With the help of beautiful and whip-smart Madeline Parker, a guest from America, Drew proposes to use the lessons he’s learned reading his mysteries to solve the crime. Trying hard to remain one step ahead of the killer - and trying harder to impress Madeline - Drew must decide how far to take this dangerous game.

Main character annoying and chauvinistic, mystery doesn’t make sense.
Revisado: 03-23-24
It’s like the author wanted to set up a Tommy and Tuppence couple sleuth book but then made Drew a jerk. He urges her to stay asking her to help him solve the mystery then sneaks off with his friend to look for clues. Says we’re not going to tell her what we find and lies to her to go off again the next day. So how exactly is she supposed to help him solve the case? He has no respect for her intelligence and she’s completely superfluous to the story. She’s giving up her vacation with her friends and what she came all the way from America to do, just to be treated horribly.
And what’s up with him calling her darling and my dear and caressing her cheek in front of other people and they’ve known each other two days! This is 1930s England, she’s barely given him permission to call her by her first name.
The mystery and who did it is a surprise only because there’s basically no one left and the why doesn’t make sense either.

Historia
1929: Miss Clara Vale is a woman ahead of her time. Rather than attending Oxford to bag an eligible Duke (as her mother, Lady Vale, so desperately hoped), she threw herself into a degree in chemistry, with aspirations to become a scientist in her own right. But the world isn't ready for Clara. Unable to land a job in science because she's a woman, she is stuck behind the desk at a dingy London library. Until her estranged Uncle dies suddenly, leaving her his private detective agency, and laboratory, in his will.

Fantastic new 1920s detective!
Revisado: 03-23-24
I was sad to see this author’s Poppy Denby books weren’t continuing but absolutely loved this new detective and supporting characters and interesting mystery. Love Clara’s science background and learning about evidence collection techniques for this period. I had to immediately buy the second book in the series after finishing this one! If you’re a fan of well plotted 1920s mysteries, endearing characters, and sprinkles of 1920s fashion, cocktails, cars and architecture you’ll love these. The narrator does an incredible job with so many accents and characters to keep separate.

Historia
Through archaeological remains, ancient texts, and work by a new generation of historians, a picture can today be built of this remarkable civilization and their capital city. Although the city had been destroyed, the legacy of the Persians survived, even as they mostly remain an enigma to the West and are not nearly as well understood as the Greeks, Romans, or Egyptians. In a sense, the Achaemenid Persian Empire holds some of the most enduring mysteries of ancient civilization.

Waste of $5
Revisado: 10-15-23
In the first 3 minutes this book has jumped around from Athenians to WW1, throwing in Byzantine and Persian references. All jumbled together so you have no clue what he’s trying to explain. Would like to return this nonsense of a ‘book’ but Audible doesn’t take back books you buy? Only if you use a credit? Hopefully I can save someone else their money by writing a review. Don’t understand the five stars but since no one wrote anything probably fake.

Historia
Deep within the bayous and swamps of Louisiana resides a population descended from an exodus. These people, called Cajuns or Acadians, were expelled from their homelands. Persecuted and homeless, they traveled hundreds of miles south in search of a new home and ultimately settled in the Pelican State, where they made new lives for themselves free from their British conquerors. Though not always warmly welcomed, they were accepted, allowing them to practice their different culture amid their new neighbors.

Boring list of dates and battles with monotone narration
Revisado: 10-04-23
Narrator reads small sections of poetry in same monotone as the rest of the book, no nuance nor interest. The whole book is just a list of dates and names essentially. No mention of the Acadian culture before migrating to Louisiana and very little once they got there.

What a delight it is to finally be able to enjoy a simple meal again! I have been in the throes of morning sickness for the last few months as Darcy and I prepare to welcome a brand-new addition to our little family. Now that I am feeling better, I have realized I am dreadfully bored! It seems that all my nearest and dearest are off leading their own busy lives while I sit at home and attempt to train our two adorably naughty puppies. Fun as it may be, it is hard not to long for a little adventure, a change of pace, before my true confinement begins when the baby comes.

Georgie and Belinda in Paris! What a delight.
Revisado: 03-25-23
Love seeing the home life with Darcy and puppies and Queenie and then all the travel details and sights, sounds, and tastes of Paris. Good mystery, love the time with Belinda and descriptions of Chanel’s fashion. The narrator does an excellent job with several Americans, Darcy’s dreamy Irish and so many colorful unique characters. I still recognize Georgie, Mummy and Belinda from the previous narrator, which has to be incredibly difficult. Hoping for more exciting adventures in their next chapter of life!

Love these characters, it is rare to truly laugh out loud at a book but Lennox is so British and so adorably funny. The narrator is excellent at the humor and perfectly paced. Mystery was excellent, interesting and not full of cliches. I hope we get to see Percy and Florence in future books!
