This book goes nowhere slow. Character development is juvenile with too much inane banter. 2 hours in and I’m out. Save your download space and enjoy silence instead.

The unlucky ones had to deal with the meteor's aftermath...and the alien virus it unleashed. Now, that virus is evolving, creating an army of mutants and monsters, mixing Earth genetics with something...not Earth. As humanity struggles in the wastelands of what's left, it might already be too late...unless a band of young heroes can rise up, and fight.

Way to tedious
Revisado: 10-10-24
Book one was interesting enough to give book two a chance. By book three I was in too deep to give up, but by book 7, I just couldn’t. This book and its characters lost my interest to the point that I gave up, 4 hours short of the finish line. No character was well enough developed to warrant caring if they lived or died, and if they died, I just didn’t care at all. I found my attention drifting so often that replay became a normal process of trying to finish this series. Implausible and irrelevant are two prominent words here. Plus, I hate made up words, especially ugly and difficult to say made up words, like Rattaskim…

With three hours to go, I just can’t!
Revisado: 10-14-23
The premise of the story sounded good, so I thought I would give it a chance. After almost 6 hours of listening, it has still gone nowhere. There is no action, no energy, no real story here. And this book is simply, dull, dull, dull. I don’t know why I should care about any of these characters. The conversations they have do not lend themselves to developing the story, and are dry and boring. I have listened to some real stinkers in my time, but not even the prospect of being bored on a rainy Saturday while doing house work makes me want to redeem this credit. I wanted to like this book, but I don’t. The narration is fine, but the story is not worth the time it takes to listen.

Good Story…questionable narration
Revisado: 10-07-22
This was a very good story, well developed, and graphic in disturbing yet good ways. The characters were strong and well developed, the pace of the story was perfect. My only issue was with the narration. Unless it was dialogue, each line was delivered as a dull statement, making it difficult to listen at times. The narrator‘s voice was a mixture of spooky and sensual, which made the story slightly more disturbing to listen to. But still I listened, although a different narrator would have given this story a five star rating for me. I have downloaded the next book in the series though and will listen. It is a good story, and I want to know what happens next!

3 hours to go
Revisado: 06-24-22
But I just can’t make myself finish this book. I love dystopian genre, and basically read anything regarding the apocalypse and a dystopian society that I can get my hands on. But after struggling with this book for 29 hours, I just cannot make myself go to the finish line. Simply put, it is boring. And I am not at all invested in a single character. Aside from that, there are simply too many seemingly important characters that either don’t develop, or fall by the wayside throughout the story, leaving you to wonder why you ever met them at all, or when you will meet them again and for what purpose. I always finish books, to save myself the anxiety of wondering what happened, or if I missed out on something great in the end, but after not missing this book for the last three days when I had plenty of time to invest, I am going to go ahead and take a hard pass on finding out how this book plays out. I don’t believe any sort of cliff hanger or surprise ending can save this for me.

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

Ludacris story
Revisado: 05-28-21
I wanted to like this book. I thought it had potential. I thought I could just get through it. I was wrong. This story is ridiculous. The small town cops don’t even play out like the standard, fictional, small town cops. Everything every character in this book does is ridiculous to any sense of logic, reason, or the human psyche. On top of that, I don’t believe the author could have stereotyped and demeaned cultures and subcultures more. The main character is as unlikable and irrational, with the worst case of judgment I’ve encountered in books in a long time. All the supporting characters are even worse. Not even the mental health professional is redeemable as a type in this novel. At the very least a reader should be able to sympathize with the idea that young girls are being kidnapped, tortured, and are dying. The most I can muster for this story is to wish I could return it to audible just to get it off of my device. This story is not well written, not well thought out, and not worth the effort of continuing to hit play as I blankly drive around town, just wanting noise in the background so I don’t have to listen to pop radio. Top 40 children’s music is better than this drivel. I will not be tempted to try any other novels from this author as the problems here seem to be systemic to the thinking and abilities rather than the shortcomings of the story. The only positive I find in this story is its ability to boost my own belief that anybody can write a book.

What? You don’t know Adam Wade? Here’s your chance! Adam Wade’s personal-yet-universal stories and vulnerable delivery have made him one of the most popular storytellers and comedians in the country on "story slam" platforms like The Moth and Comedy Central’s Whiplash. This Audible Original, performed on stage in front of a live audience, combines Wade’s greatest hits stories with entirely new material.

Perfect Marriage
Revisado: 03-25-19
I have read a lot of excellent novels in my years, and never written a review. I was unsure about this series when I listened to the sample and thought that it would be predictable and trite. I can happily say I was wrong. This book is a perfect marriage between believable and fearful and hopeful, nothing trite or predictable about that! After 10 books, it would be easy to think you would want to begin a new story by a new author with new characters and new adventures; instead, I find myself wondering just how far these characters went, or is it will go since this is a future not yet decided. I would say I highly recommend this book to you, but I don’t know you and you don’t know me. So instead, I will say to TW Piperbrook, I highly recommend that you reconsider the end of the series and tell us more. Thank you for 10 great reads!
