Bartleby, the Scrivener

The story is as funny as it is sad, at least to anyone who's ever had to deal with an employee acting like this. What I like best is the narration, which really brings it to life.

Would you listen to Christmas and the Other Grandmother again? Why?

I will listen to this heartwarming tale again. This retelling of holiday gatherings is delightfully intertwined with memories of good food which brought back my own best memories of getting together with relatives. I believe that, particularly, women of the past expressed love in the wonderful special recipes they developed and took pride in offering to family and holiday gatherings.

What does Elisabeth Gray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Elisabeth's youthful and delightful reading brought to me to a time of life of my own where holidays were filled with loved ones. My own memories of those times are deeply rooted in the wonderful food prepared by my older relatives and served at the table truly as love offerings.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I wanted to listen to the full story once I started it. This book brings to mind for each of us a person, and a point of time where we truly connected.

Any additional comments?

This book will make a lovely Christmas gift for anyone with sweet memories of family.
