Great Story, Excellent Narration
Revisado: 02-04-19
Just when you're sure you know what's going to happen next, it doesn't. A nice thriller with an astute scientific underpinning. If you're paranoid about what's coming for the country, this won't help you sleep at night. The narration is spot on and no stupid music or sound effects. I highly recommend you give this author a try.

Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.

Great Story - AWFUL production.
Revisado: 12-16-14
What would have made Infected better?
Get rid of the idiotic sound effects, amateur female character vocalizations, is there anyone reading a book with such a small imagination they don't know what a door knock sounds like. There was a knock on the door (SFX door knocking sound) We don't need this distraction. These are audio books not radio versions of movies. People who listen to audio books are still readers at heart, trust your audience.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I know this author pod casts his books and I can forgive the weird female voices but I bet he didn't add sound effects and heavy metal music to his pod casts. If he did at least you're getting them for free.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It was a very good story with a credible SF foundation and the author structured his story very well. Read the printed version or Kindle version.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Too Much Science, Not Enough Fiction
Revisado: 08-23-14
Any additional comments?
I like when the science in a sci fi novel makes sense, even if it can only occur in a clearly defined "other world" But the long detailed scientific explanations got in the way of enjoying the story for me. Disaster occurs, well just a bit of Mr. Wizard basic science will take care of that. I can't say not to listen to this book, but make sure you want a lesson in what a physics class would sound like on Mars. I also thought the portrayal of the main character was a bit cavalier. I found myself wishing the minor characters in NASA were out a bit more stage center. I found myself longing for more from them

The sound effects suck.
Revisado: 01-06-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
No stupid sound effects, there should be a warning label. Why do you need a woman to do the women's voice. I would have preferred a woman reading the entire book rather than having a women's voice pop up out of nowhere. It's not a movie or even a radio show. It's one person reading a book out loud as best they can. Made it very hard to loose myself in the story.

Once presided over by a flamboyant Hollywood mogul during the Roaring ’20s, the magnificent West Coast property known as Roseland is now home to a reclusive billionaire financier and his faithful servants. I was only able to get through about an hour of this book. It seemed like all odd Thomas did was just speculate on the weirdness of life over and over. It just got boring. I loved all the other odd Thomas books so I'm disappointed.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

This book was predictable and telegraphed from page one. The minor twist at the end is a cheap shot at the sequel that should have been part of this lame story. Also the music was QUITE annoying. Even if you love Patterson like I do - stay away from this one.

Dupont University: the Olympian halls of learning housing the cream of America's youth, the roseate Gothic spires and manicured lawns suffused with tradition....Or so it appears to beautiful, brilliant Charlotte Simmons, a sheltered freshman from North Carolina, who has come here on full scholarship. But Charlotte soon learns, to her mounting dismay, that for the upper-crust coeds of Dupont, sex, Cool, and kegs trump academic achievement every time.

Great Book, Great Reading Performance
Revisado: 03-16-05
Let me start by saying Dylan Baker's reading of this novel amounts to nothing less than a 31 hour 1 man Broadway show. His charactizations were brilliant, more than just sounding like the characters he added a visual dimension to their personalities, male and female that is amazing to experience.
My only problem with his reading is the tugging at the back of my brain that I wouldn't have liked this book as well or at all if I read it myself or a less talented reader was cast. I am listening to a lot of books and I am starting to get the feeling that I have about MTV. If a song becomes popular because it has a good video but would have not been noticed otherwise , is it still a good song? Who knows. But I am worried that production values will increase and things like music and sound effects and multiple readers (ultimately one for each character may be next)become more important than the words. Ala hollywood. STILL YOU WILL HEAR A BRAVURA READING ON THIS BOOK.
The story is very good, captivating all the way through. I do agree with some other reviewers, it looses a little steam in the end. I loathed some of the characters so much that I wanted to bath a little more in their undoing.
The funny thing is this could almost just as easily been about college in the 60's and in some ways I think might actually be. Loved it.
