This is an old salt of a detective who has been through the Vietnam war,but has a closet history
of education-there are hidden literary jokes, great observations of the people around him, wry comments on relationships with kids,coworkers. I picked it out on a whim, not expecting to love it, just a taste of a different genre.I ended up buying the whole series one after another, and can't wait for the next one,
