Powerful, Beautiful and Gripping
Revisado: 01-10-22
I listened to/read this 3-book series and was pleasantly surprised. It was so unique, provided character insight was thorough, with regard to completing storylines. There were so many different components that kept my interest. As a fan of historical fiction and period pieces, this was perfect, and I was sad to see it end. Loved it, and happy to have found another wonderful author to add to my list of favorites.

Impressive Author/Talented Narrator
Revisado: 01-08-21
When I began reading this book, it wasn't quite what I expected. I had a difficult time understanding some of the accents, but that's to be expected. At one point, I set the book down and went to another. I didn't even know if I would come back to it. Well I did come back to it, and am so glad that I did. This book was not as predictable as I thought it would be, and the characters were likeable, which always makes for a pleasant reading (and listening) experience. In some ways, it reminded me of 'To Let' from 'The Forsythe Saga,' with regard to the descriptions about nature and how it related to the characters' feelings. The author's ability to depict the characters as people and not create obviously good or bad characters was worth noting. The characters, of all classes, were just like regular people; good and bad qualities, who just were going about their lives. I also enjoyed the historical aspect of it. I never fail to learn something new when reading historical fiction.

It Feels Like Home
Revisado: 04-30-20
This book was so wonderful that I didn't want to stop listening. I vaguely remember reading it in high school and enjoying it thoroughly but wasn't sure if it was still for me. I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised in how I still admire everything about this book. The wit, comfortable setting, lovable characters and the way James described, with such feeling and thoughtfulness, his interactions with the animals. The narrator was absolutely fantastic. There were parts that had me laughing out loud. He was able to describe each scene perfectly. He brought this story to life, and I cannot imagine another telling it. This is a true gem.
