Historia
Since its publication in 1932, Black Elk Speaks has moved countless readers to appreciate the American Indian world that it described. John Neihardt’s popular narrative addressed the youth and early adulthood of Black Elk, an Oglala Sioux religious elder. Michael F. Steltenkamp now provides the first full interpretive biography of Black Elk, distilling in one volume what is known of this American Indian wisdom keeper whose life has helped guide others. Nicholas Black Elk: Medicine Man, Missionary, Mystic shows that the holy-man was not the dispirited traditionalist commonly depicted in literature....

Interesting
Revisado: 10-29-18
A lot of references were made to earlier works of other authors about the person of Black Elk. I did not expect or particularly care for that, probably because I am unfamiliar with those books and thoughts.
Regardless I enjoyed learning more about this unique person. It is worth a listen.

Difficult listen
Revisado: 08-03-18
Last year I read the paper version of Tao Te Ching and enjoyed it.
Although the practice of Tao is far from my bed, as in an unknown philosophy, I enjoyed reading and learning from this classic.
The narrator did a good job professionally, but for this audiobook I did not get the sense he understood anything he was saying himself. The manner in which the rhymes were read resembled nursery rhymes. He rushed through the book so fast and in such a superficial way I was left wondering what had actually been said.
Too bad.

Historia
Notes is considered by many to be one of the first existentialist novels. It presents itself as an excerpt from the rambling memoirs of a bitter, isolated, unnamed narrator (generally referred to by critics as the Underground Man) who is a retired civil servant living in St. Petersburg. The first part of the story is told in monologue form, or the Underground Man's diary, and attacks emerging Western philosophy, especially Nikolay Chernyshevsky's What Is to Be Done?

Dostoyevsky never disappoints
Revisado: 06-18-18
Forty years before communism was introduced Dostoyevsky wrote this foreseeing book.
He was an amazing thinker and author for sure.
This book gives lots of drama from a nihilistic, resentful character who is writing his honest memoir.
One of his main thoughts is that we don't act as rational as we like to think we are, that rationalism is unable to explain world's history.
Dostoyevsky's books never disappoint to expose our human nature. This one is emotionally alive and you can't help but reflect on your own life and of those around you.
Highly recommended, great narration as well.

Of Tozer's many books and other writings, The Pursuit of God is his most famous and widely read. The Pursuit of God in particular has reached all the corners of the world. This book is considered a Christian classic and is still read and listened to by many faithful Christians to this day. It was written and published while he was a pastor in Chicago.

Not my favorite classic of A. W. Tozer
Revisado: 05-08-18
Having read a lot of old christian classics I was really looking forward to this one.
It turned out it was not my favorite.
The writing style did not kindle my fire for God. It has a lot of good reviews, so honestly do give it a try.
By far the audiobook 'Communing with God in Everything - Collected Insights from A. W. Tozer' tops this one and stirs a longing for God.
The narrator was great, I loved he didn't have this honey-coated voice some christian audiobooks are known for.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 03-30-18
Enjoyable children's story about a ten year old girl. The first chapter reminded me of 'A Little Princess', but that quickly changed as the main character is really not that good natured.
I liked the writing style and the narrator's voice, but the audio sound was not always consistent and for that reason I gave it a 4*.
