Historia
The best-known prose work by the winner of the 1980 Nobel Prize for Literature examines the moral and intellectual conflicts faced by men and women living under totalitarianism of the left or right. Written in the early 1950s, when Eastern Europe was in the grip of Stalinism and many Western intellectuals placed their hopes in the new order of the East, this classic work reveals in fascinating detail the often beguiling allure of totalitarian rule to people of all political beliefs and its frightening effects on the minds of those who embrace it.

An interesting insight
Revisado: 04-28-25
An insightful and philosophic take on the peoples of Eastern Europe who have suffered the boot of both the Nazi as well as the Communist, well put together, with insight and yet with something missing. It seems a good analysis, yet incomplete, as the author only wrote this at the beginning of the Red Ordeal in Europe. I hoped it was more psychological rather philosophic, but it was still a good starting point for anyone who intends to dive into the experiences and psyche of the Eastern European of that time.

Cute
Revisado: 04-11-25
A fun quick holiday themed read, filled with misunderstands and reconciliation, love triangles and love conquests. I'm starting to think Liz has unrealistic expectations of how relationships work out in reality. While the characters seem both distinct and interchangeable all at the same time.
Still, a fun, quick positive read with not too much drama or anxiety.

And so it ended
Revisado: 04-02-25
It was a long, interesting and twisting road. The ending was unexpected but also a little bit jarring, and i am not sure it was wholly in character. That being said Alistair Reynolds builds interesting worlds, deep and surprising characters and excellent action and suspense. I look forward to reading the main "Revelation Space" series.

For generations, nobles have gathered at a scenic estate once per year to compete. What transpires there is spoken of only in rumors, save for the prizes. Potent, powerful, and precious; the winners are said to receive a gift from magic itself. Reeling after their loss to Kalzidar, the adventurers from Maplebark can only press forward, following advice imparted by the gods. Their divine directions will lead them on a series of twisting paths, branching between old friends and new challenges, before ultimately pointing at a particular estate on a specific evening.

More please!
Revisado: 03-26-25
Despite me trying to listen to several books at the same time, when it came time to switch from this book to the next, i found myself remaining here, to hear just a bit more of the story, and then just a bit more, and then just a bit more. I can honestly say i was enraptured by this story, by these characters and their adventures, by the world and the over arching mystery! I hope Drew finishes the next book soon!

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 03-25-25
I have to admit i have mixed feelings about this one. While it gave me the political and social machinations, as well as the action that i expected from a story about the Sith deeply corrupting and manipulating the Republic, those portrayed left me with little satisfaction, and i am unsure why.

Featuring Inspector Dreyfus - one of Alastair Reynolds' most popular characters - this is a fast-paced SF crime story, combining a futuristic setting with a gripping tale of technology, revolution and revenge. One citizen died a fortnight ago. Two a week ago. Four died yesterday...and unless the cause can be found - and stopped - within the next four months, everyone will be dead. For the Prefects, the hunt for a silent, hidden killer is on....

A nice story but Amazon is trash
Revisado: 03-07-25
The story was fine, interesting and engaging but i deeply hate Amazon's removal of Badges and Listening statistics, as well as all their other bullshit dystopian moves over the last few years.

Whooo Boy!
Revisado: 02-23-25
Whoo Boy! At first it was a cliche story full of clichees. That in itself isn't necesarily bad. The obnoxious exagerated personal drama brought the story down instead of grounding it in reality, as i think it tried to do. The Twists however were fresh, at least to me, and it ended with a feeling of cautios hope. At least that is what I felt at the end.

Fun winter listen!
Revisado: 02-06-25
OK, so i started with the thrid book in the series when i did not know it was a series, and decided to go back and watch the formation of this great group of friends! And it was a fun, cutsey read, even though it had a bit of melodrama and a kind of "third act conflict" that the 3rd title did not have, which downgraded the experience a bit for me. But overall a pretty nice short break in between more serious or demanding books!

An entertaining illumination of the stupid beliefs that make us feel wise. You believe you are a rational, logical being who sees the world as it really is, but journalist David McRaney is here to tell you that you're as deluded as the rest of us. But that's OK - delusions keep us sane. You Are Not So Smart is a celebration of self-delusion. It's like a psychology class, with all the boring parts taken out, and with no homework. Based on the popular blog of the same name, You Are Not So Smart collects more than 46 of the lies we tell ourselves everyday.

Very Informative
Revisado: 02-06-25
It was a great listen, and despite the fact that i'm not 100% sure i agree with every point, i do think people should read this book. It tackles 45 biases, each with its own chapter, so you can come back to exactly the point you want to brush up on without going again through the whole book. Chapters also form natural stoping points, so you don't get overwhelmed and have time to digest the information! Overall a great experience!

Revisado: 01-30-25
The stakes grow. So do our characters. I have enjoyed the journey, both throughout this book and throughtout the series. i look forward to the next book, but i also fear Drew is writing himself into a corner. Everything keeps escalating quite drastically. At some point we will need a conclusion. Still, till that moment comes, i will continue ejoying the journey!
