Humble Inspiring Stories, Many Different Voices

I've heard about this book in a podcast interview with the author the day before it came out, and the timing was wonderful, because I was getting ready to quit my decent job for a somewhat uncertain future, or a few months of it anyway.

The book is a collection of stories from the people who at some point in their lives "jumped". Meaning, changed their lives and careers in a way that was "unexpected" from them and came with much uncertainty.

There is so much to love about this book!

The stories are all inspiring, and they are so in a human and relatable way. While many of them are somewhat conventional successes: the person wanted to do something, achieved their goal, and (one presumes) lived happily ever after; others are not exactly. Some of the narrators are still in the middle of their journey, and they share their uncertainties with us in a way that's reassuring: yes, scary, but better than not trying at all. Others tried pursuing their dreams, overcame obstacles, had to change course, discovered something new. Even the narrators sharing stories of conventional success often share the paths that, for years, didn't exactly look like it would lead there. Some "successes" are lucrative. Some are primarily deeply fulfilling personally.

The author's own story weaved in throughout the book is of the kind where he accomplished what he set to accomplish, came back, and then found something else entirely (cue the book). It offers some endearing details the book is full of: those Power Point slides!

Next, I love how many different voices there are. In particular, happy to hear many female voices and voices of people of different ages, who "jumped" at various points in their lives. Oh, and they are all (most?) contemporary. I actually happen to know one of the narrators, as in we run into each other and say hi every few weeks, and he's still doing what he happily jumped into.

Speaking of the voices, I highly recommend the audiobook edition. With very few exceptions, every story is told by the protagonist, and they are good!

My only wish is that the audiobook would come with some kind of a guide or informative chapter descriptions: ". ", which is how the print edition chapters are titled, sounds like. Perhaps a PDF with chapter list can be offered with the Audible edition? Not that I mind re-listening and stopping to bookmark my favorite parts and stories so I can find them again.

Great story, unfortunate narrator

The story is fascinating, but the narrator's voice is hard to listen to. It's professional enough, but strained and muffled, as if the narrator has a chronic head cold. Having heard an interview with Luke Harding, I wish he did his own narration. I'm going to by a kindle version, so I can even finish this. With so many characters, places, and dates, can be easier to follow that way in any case.

Simply, eloquently, and sincerely written, this book is a delightful combination of inspiring personal narrative and solid research.
If you are a woman without children (like I am) or a man, keep listening past the first sentence: you'll be just fine!
Better than fine even. The powerful story of personal growth and evolution of thinking would be relatable for many. I feel like a more compassionate and empowered individual, having read the book!

I highly recommend this book to anyone finding themselves in (and out of) relationships where they experience rejection and lack of caring. Reading this book is like talking to a wise and incredibly loving friend. The exercises help healing. I only wish Susan narrated it herself.
