Fix the audio
Revisado: 03-11-25
At about 2 hrs and 18 mins LEFT mark, the audio does a real weird thing. It cuts out at the end of each sentence / phrase. Almost sounds like each sentence was its own recording and then someone put them all together with breaks between. Hard to explain. Its very jarring and hard to listen to. Did all the normal stuff - deleted download, redownloaded, tried streaming, tried on PC, tried on phone, etc. Audible help was unable to resolve. They said they'd look into it but never did. Was never able to finish the book.

Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Lay off political hot topic, culture war, BS… stopped listening.
Revisado: 12-01-23
Stopped listening about an hour in. Would return if I could. Too much droning on and pontificating about the author's political hot topics. It's like he took every popular fox news talking point and decided to give his viewpoint on it. This comes from someone pretty center of the aisle that finds ultra-PC shit annoying, is a gun owner, understands the need for (and supports) police and the military. etc.
Doesn't even make sense to talk about this kind of thing in the third book about some apocalyptic scenario. Well into a situation like this, the character isn't going to give a sh*t about "kids these days", antifa, politics, political correctness, "woke" culture, critical race theory.. yet here he is ranting on about them all. I'm sure if I would have listened more we'd touch on immigrants, inner cities, trans people, the border, Obama, "sheeples", etc etc etc. Doesn't even fit in the story, feels like the author just wanted a stage to share his views. The guy would be concerned about food, shelter, safety, and just getting by. Not complaining about stupid, petty disagreements of the old world.

Historia
In the sequel to his best-selling World Made by Hand, James Howard Kunstler expands on his vision of a post-oil society with a new novel about an America in which the electricity has flickered off, the Internet is a distant memory, and the government is little more than a rumor. In the tiny hamlet of Union Grove, New York, travel is horse-drawn and farming is back at the center of life. But it’s no pastoral haven.

Very comforting, enjoyable, and relaxing to listen to. Sure they may be an idealized version of an apocalyptic like event, but I hope we could eventually return to something like this if god forbid something bad happened. On my second listen of the series.

Historia
After an exchange student with bubonic plague turns up in a Reno hospital, a contractor with identical symptoms dies in Los Angeles. The government‘s official stance is that the cases are isolated and the outbreak is under control. But George Mack, a 30-year public health veteran, quickly realizes this is no ordinary plague. The death toll is too high, and the spread pattern make no sense. As Reno’s hospitals fill with victims, Mack begins to believe that there is more to the epidemic than the CDC is letting on - and that he must take drastic steps if he hopes to save his city.

Historia
Time is a very fluid thing, no one really has a grasp on it other than maybe how to measure it. As the maestro of the Day by Day Armageddon Universe, I have the latitude of being in control of that time. I can adjust the slider either direction, moving the timeline back and forth along the continuum. This is one of the perks of creation, the benefit in constructing something (albeit small) from nothing. Sort of makes you wonder what the maestro of the universe is up to, no? You have again stumbled upon a ticket with service through the apocalyptic wastes, but this time the train is a little bit older, a little more beat up, and maybe a little wiser. Keep your doors locked.

Chandler’s voices
Revisado: 05-04-22
As a new cork O’Conner listener (listened all the way through to this one in the last 6 months), I’m guessing there were some narrator shenanigans at one point. Some reviews of this book mention missing some other narrator. Chandler (who I think is great!) has been, and is, listed as the narrator since book 1 (as of 2022). So I don’t know the order in which chandler read the books, but a couple things in this one caught me off guard regarding the narration: Henry maloux’s voice up until this book has been the perfect old man voice. Now in this book, he talks like a regular dude. Not sure what’s up with that. Also several of the ojibwe word pronunciations are different in this book. I don’t know what is right but I’ve been used to the pronunciations in the last 10+ books. Can’t wait to hear the rest, regardless of voices or pronunciations. Chandler is awesome. Can’t wait for more Joe Pickett books as well!
One other thing — I’m sure it’s not quite as striking listening to these as they came out — but when you listen to them all over several months, the amount of utterly crazy, life altering, once-in-a-lifetime things that happen to this one family from a tiny little town, is nuts. I understand the book series would be boring as hell if it were realistic. Kind of the paradox in the TV show longmire. No tiny Wyoming town is going to have a murder a week. Every single event that’s happened to all of corks family would be something a real person would NEVER forget and would tell that story the rest of their life.

Melanie Hoskins, an experienced firefighter-paramedic, has been recruited by a very selective and secret organisation known as The Division. Their mission is to protect the populace and secure the continuation of the United States. The Division is only activated at times of dire need. This just so happens to be one of those times. Based in New York City, Hoskins is forced to leave her civilian life and those she loves behind, and join the front line to try to control the 'dollar flu' virus that has been spreading throughout the city.

Historia
When a viral apocalypse kills 97 percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.
